Nothing Ever Stays The Same
Reflecting on previous cycles, I am reminded of how straightforward altcoin investing used to be. The process was simple: load up on various altcoins and then wait for Altcoin Season. It was a simple process to follow that didn’t require much knowledge or insight. A high tide was sure to lift all boats. However, that is no longer the case. In a recent article, I addressed altcoin filtering, a process set to reshape the altcoin landscape.
Essentially, altcoin filtering is a byproduct of the amalgamation of TradFi and Crypto. It promises to sift through the altcoin market in an attempt to isolate and identify projects with utility. Sure, many projects have utility. However, is their utility crucial or even needed for the future of finance? This is where future altcoin gains will be realized. Altcoin investors need to identify these projects as early as possible.
Altcoin investing has changed forever, at least in my opinion. A high tide, otherwise known as Altcoin Season, will still have a minimal effect across the board. However, certain projects will outperform the benchmark quite heavily. Projects like Ondo performed well in the mini run of 2024 because they are well-aligned with the future of finance. In other words, they have a seat at the table.
DeFi Matures
Investors must identify these projects and begin building positions. There will always be winners in other sectors. However, the dynamics are changing. TradFi has been the dominant force of the current cycle. This is why Bitcoin has outperformed almost every altcoin. I view 2032 as the next meaningful time horizon for significant altcoin gains. I am speaking of 50X and higher.
Some may view this as a little extreme. However, I am addressing currently obscure projects that will eventually reach significant adoption levels. Projects that will be introduced and welcomed into the future of finance. Ethereum is well-positioned to capture the majority of WEB3’s gains. However, RWA and DeFi are set to merge and create the future of finance. DeFi is destined to be legitimized in the future.
A legitimized DeFi sector will result in a complete overhaul. DeFi is currently plagued by hacks and negative press. DeFi remains immature, and a lot needs to unfold before it can be taken seriously.

Choosing future altcoin winners is now one of the most difficult endeavors to pursue, where it once was simple and predictable. More risk-averse investors are better suited to remain with Bitcoin and Ethereum. The times they are a-changing. Please don’t consider this investment advice. These are merely my views.
