Liverpool continues to be linked with summer additions despite its ongoing search for a new manager and sporting director. It is still unclear who will replace Jürgen Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke but targets are seemingly being identified.
The Reds could make an attempt to sign a Barcelona star but there is likely to be competition from the Premier League in the pursuit of Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich. Here's your round-up of the latest Liverpool news.

Reds eye ex-Chelsea defender
Liverpool could be about to make a surprising summer move for Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen. The Denmark international joined Barca from Chelsea in 2022 but faces an uncertain future at the Nou Camp.
Christensen has often been tasked with playing in a holding midfield role this season. It remains to be seen where he will fit into the new manager's plans, with Xavi departing at the end of the season.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool remains an admirer of the 27-year-old and could be set offer as much as $54m (£43m/€50m) to try and take him to Anfield. It is reported that Barcelona may consider selling Christensen due to its ongoing financial issues.

A new central defender is likely to be a priority for Jürgen Klopp's successor at the end of the season, with Joël Matip having seemingly played his last game for the club. Jarell Quansah has emerged and impressed in his absence but reinforcements may still be needed.
Arsenal keen on Joshua Kimmich
Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich is likely to be the subject of more Premier League interest, with Arsenal having reportedly entered the race for his signature. Kimmich is about to enter the final year of his contract with Bayern but fresh terms have not been agreed.
And that will leave the German champions at risk of losing the midfielder for nothing in a year's time. Pep Guardiola is known to be an admirer of Kimmich while Bild reported recently that Liverpool is interested in the 28-year-old.
Now it has emerged that he is also on Arsenal's shortlist for midfield additions this summer. Fichajes claims that Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the Germany international and sees his him as an ideal replacement for Thomas Partey, who has struggled with injuries this season.
It is also stated that Arsenal is targeting Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz and Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi. The latter has also emerged as a target for Liverpool, according to Football Transfers.

Arsenal pair among top 10 most expensive players ever to then leave for free transfers

Kylian Mbappe will thunder to the top of this list when he leaves PSG, usurping one of four Real Madrid signings. Two Arsenal attackers and a Man Utd flop also make the 10.
Here are the 10 most expensive players to leave the club they joined for big money on a free transfer.

10) Angel Di Maria

Di Maria was one of the floppiest flops ever to sign for Manchester United. From United’s perspective, the only positive of his one-year stay at Old Trafford was the fact they got most of their money back – £44.3million – from PSG.
In Paris, Di María won five Ligue 1 titles, five Coupes de France and four Coupes de la Ligue, encompassing three domestic quadruples. He remains their all-time leader in assists, a year and a half since since leaving for Juventus at the end of his contract.

9) Luka Jovic
“For Eintracht Frankfurt this is a good and important transfer,” said the German side. For Real Madrid, it was an unmitigated disaster.
Jovic was tipped to eventually replace Karim Benzema. But he scored a grand total of three goals in 51 appearances after moving for £52.4million in 2019.
“I left Eintracht very early, and when I arrived in Madrid, the spotlight was on me,” he reflected after he was allowed to leave for nothing to join Fiorentina. “Fitting in at the best club in the world is complicated. Between injuries, and Covid-19, I had unfair pressure on me. It was an unhappy experience.”

Arsenal 'always have to be in conversation' for signing players like Mbappe - Arteta

8) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Aubameyang left Borussia Dortmund and joined Arsenal in a £56million deal in January 2018. And, for a while, he was brilliant.
The Gabon striker won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2018/19 and played a starring role in their FA Cup success a year later.
But the club captain’s form nosedived after he was given a massive new deal worth £300,000-a-week at the start of 2020/21 and that contract was terminated by mutual consent in February 2022 when Mikel Arteta thrust him towards Barcelona.

7) Edinson Cavani
PSG got more than their money’s worth from Cavani even if, like Mbappe, they watched him walk away for free.
When the Uruguay striker moved from Napoli to Paris in 2013, he became French football’s most expensive player ever. Cavani stayed for seven years, winning six Ligue 1 titles, five Coupes de la Ligue and four Coupes de France. He also became their greatest-ever goalscorer, a record he held until Mbappe broke it.

Cavani departed at the same time as Thiago Silva when their contracts expired in 2020. Decisions which prompted Leonardo to later admit: “We could have made a mistake.”

6) Kaka
Real got fast and loose in 2009, signing Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso in the same summer. Of all those huge deals, Kaka turned out to be the most disappointing.
He started well but his slide coincided with Jose Mourinho’s appointment as boss in 2010. Mourinho preferred Mesut Ozil and Di Maria, while injuries didn’t help.
After 120 appearances, 29 goals and 39 assists, Kaka left in 2013, a day which he later reflected upon as his happiest memory at the club. “It may sound strange, but I prefer the day that it was confirmed that I was leaving.” Which sounds cattier than it was.

5) Nicolas Pepe
Lille pulled Arsenal’s pants down to the tune of £72million for the winger in 2019. It seems the Gunners fell for the French club’s brinkmanship, with Napoli said to have offered more as an overall package, prompting Arsenal to pay a fee that raised eyebrows across the continent.
For that club-record figure, Arsenal got 16 Premier League goals in four seasons, the last of which was spent on loan at Nice.
So wrong it went, Arsenal carried out an internal investigation into how and why they sanctioned the deal. Later, Unai Emery claimed he had lobbied for Wilfried Zaha but was presented with Pepe instead.

4) Gonzalo Higuain
The Argentina star was a goal machine at Napoli, with 71 strikes in 104 Serie A games prompting Juventus to break the Italian transfer record with a £75million swoop.
Higuain couldn’t replicate that form with the Old Lady – he was no flop either with 48 goals in 105 league games, winning three Serie A titles – but Juve were very keen to frame his exit in 2019, a year before the end of his contract, as a financially savvy move, saving £16million in wages.

Inter Miami scooped him on a free transfer and Higuain wound down his career with a couple of years in MLS.

3) Gareth Bale
Bale was usurped by the No.1 here as Real’s record signing. But at least the Spaniards got good value for money before it all went sour.
Spurs received a world-record £85million fee in 2013 for the Wales winger and in nine years at the Bernabeu, Bale scored 106 goals in 256 appearances, won three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and five Champions Leagues. He scored a stunning bicycle-kick in the 2018 Champions League final as they beat Liverpool, having helped secure La Decima with the goal to make it 2-1 in extra-time against Atletico Madrid four years prior.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing between Bale and Real. Specifically the media and supporters, triggered most by a failed move to China and a banner held by the player that read: “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that Order” while he celebrated with international teammates in 2019.
He returned to Spurs on loan for 2020-21 before leaving the Bernabeu at the end of his contract.

2) Paul Pogba
Again, few forecasted Pogba’s problems when Manchester United brought him back from Juventus in 2016 for £89million. The France star showed the occasional glimpse of the brilliance that prompted United to pay a British record fee but, overall, Pogba was a pain in the arse.
Jose Mourinho called him a “virus” – and he had a point. Pogba danced on Mourinho’s grave when the manager was sacked by United in 2018, by which time the midfielder was already doing his best to strut away from Old Trafford.
Every manager since Mourinho tried to pacify Pogba but he brought more grief than he was worth up until 2022, when he sloped off at the end of his contract. All the way back to Juventus, who were very smug about re-signing the midfielder. Probably not now, to Mourinho’s presumed lack of surprise.

1) Eden Hazard
The Belgian was a shocker of a signing for Real. Which no-one saw coming. Especially anyone who watched Hazard tear up the Premier League with Chelsea.
Real appeared a natural next step for the winger after seven seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he won every domestic honour and the Europa League twice, in addition to being named Premier League Player of the Year in 2014-15. Chelsea sent him on his way with their best wishes while trousering £89million. Real also promised to pay up to another £60million in add-ons.
Only those that rewarded turning up were triggered – enough to make Hazard the club’s most expensive player ever. For that, Real got just seven goals in 76 appearances in four years before both parties decided to terminate their arrangement with a year remaining on Hazard’s contract.
Hazard had a look around for another project but thought better of it and decided to retire four months later.

Man Utd transfer: ‘Contact made’ over summer deal for £43m striker with Ten Hag ‘very interested’

Manchester United are ‘very interested’ in signing Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Germany.
Bayern snapped up Tel from French side Rennes for €20million in July 2022, two months after the player’s 17th birthday.
He has a respectable 12 goals in 55 appearances for the German giants, scoring three and assisting one in his first five Bundesliga appearances of 2023/24, all of which came off the bench.

The 18-year-old scored against Manchester United in the Champions League earlier this season and is now being linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Tel is a versatile forward capable of playing anywhere across the front three, a bit like Marcus Rashford.
Erik ten Hag is eager to bolster his attack but could not do so in the winter transfer window due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
It is unclear how much Bayern would demand for Tel if the Red Devils were to enquire, but he is valued at €50m (£42.7million), as per Transfermarkt.

With Ten Hag looking to sign someone to relieve the pressure on Rasmus Hojlund, United ‘have made contact’ over the signing of Tel.
This is according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who says the Premier League giants are ‘very interested’ in signing the teenager at the end of the season.

Why Sofyan Amrabat Would Solve Man United's BIGGEST Problem

Two unnamed clubs are also keen on signing the France Under-21 international and have made an enquiry to Bayern.
Plettenberg says Tel would like to stay in Munich to ‘become a legend for Bayern’, but if that feeling is not reciprocated, ‘he will consider his options’.
He is not open to leaving the Bundesliga champions on loan, however.
Plettenberg wrote on X: ‘Manchester United have made contact for the first time and are very interested to sign him in summer!
‘Two more clubs from have also inquired about him in the last weeks. Been told: Even though it’s not easy for him right now, he still doesn’t want to give up as he wants to become a legend for Bayern.
‘But: If he don’t receive the feeling, that Bayern believe in him in the future, he will consider his options – but a loan is not one of them.’
There is a lot of uncertainty at the Allianz Arena at this moment in time, with the pressure mounting on manager Thomas Tuchel.

The ex-Chelsea boss replaced Julian Nagelsmann last March and only won the league title in 22/23 because of an incredible capitulation from Borussia Dortmund.
This term, Bayern were knocked out of the DfB Pokal by third-tier side FC Saarbrucken and are trailing Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race.
Pressure ramped up after last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Leverkusen when Bayern were beaten 1-0 by Lazio in their Champions League last-16 first leg on Wednesday.
The job Xabi Alonso is doing at Leverkusen has led to many rumours that Bayern’s former player will join them in the summer.
He is being strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, though, with Jurgen Klopp leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

Ten Hag scolded over wasting Man Utd millions and for ditching star better than under-fire first choice

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been told he has made a grave mistake ditching a star he never once played at Old Trafford in favour of signing £47.2m man Andre Onana.
The Red Devils boss opted to reunite with the Cameroon keeper over the summer, having previously worked with him at Ajax and being wowed by his performances for Inter Milan in the Champions League. Those performances inspired the Nerazzurri to reach the UCL final, where they just fell narrowly short against Manchester City.

Nonetheless, Onana‘s efforts were inspired and Ten Hag wasted little time in persuading club bosses to swoop to bring him in as a long-term successor to David De Gea, who departed Old Trafford at the end of his contract.
And after weeks of talks, Manchester United eventually landed on a deal for Onana that cost them an initial £43.8m, with an addition £3.4m in add-ons, making him one of the three most expensive goalkeepers of all time.

However, little has gone right for the 27-year-old since the switch to Old Trafford with the goalkeeper taking a long time to adjust to his surroundings and guilty of a number of glaring errors.
His displays have improved somewhat in recent times, with Onana now managing seven clean sheets in 24 Premier League matches.

But given the money spent on his signing, together with the fact that his arrival was expected to revolutise United’s style of play and ability to play out from the back, the jury remains out over whether his signing has been a shrewd one.

Man Utd told Jack Butland could have saved them millions

Onana’s form for United is in stark contrast to Jack Butland, the keeper who moved to Old Trafford on loan from Crystal Palace in the 2023 January window.
The former England stopper was one of three arrivals for Ten Hag that month, alongside Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer, but failed to make a single appearance during his time at Old Trafford.
Since then, Butland has moved to Rangers on a free transfer and has proved an inspired signing for the Gers, keeping 20 clean sheets from 40 appearances so far.
Now former Rangers star John Brown has told Ten Hag he would have been better signing Butland up than splashing out millions on Onana.

“I was always a fan of Butland,” Brown said. “I was surprised he never got more minutes down south. When I look at the Premier League there are a lot of goalkeepers down there that I’d say Jack Butland is better than.
“He was at Manchester United and for me their first-choice goalkeeper… if I was going for a steady keeper then Jack Butland would be my choice. So the fact Rangers got him is fantastic for the club. The other thing is he’s coming into a club with 50,000 every home game.
“He’s playing in Europe, going for trophies, he’s got a trophy in the bag, he probably has another 10 years at the top because of the years he’s missed.”

Butland reveals why he left Man Utd

Butland himself insists he was happy to leave Old Trafford and, at 30 years old, needed to be playing regular football, rather than just waste away on a club’s bench.
And while he could have signed permanently over the summer, he did not want to play second fiddle while clearly not Ten Hag’s first chouce.

Speaking about his time at United, Butland said: “As much as I enjoyed Palace and as good as United was, I missed playing. And that’s important to me All right, ‘Could you be at United?’
“Well, yes, but what would the rest of my career look like? That was important to me. I wanted 30 onwards to be something l look back on as a successful period and not one that drifted away.”
Instead, United opted to shell out £4.3m to sign Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce, who joined as deputy for Onana. The Turk recently made his debut in the 4-2 FA Cup win against Newport County.
Butland, meanwhile, has won nine caps for England, the most recent coming in 2018 during a 1-0 win over Switzerland.
