The Hunger Games Book

The hunger games is a survival based movie where 2 people from each district fight to the death. The main character Katniss Everdean volunteered for her sister prim everdeen because she would have no chance to win. So she has to fight and perform in the hunger games. Survival is used by Katniss throughout the entire movie but 2 ways she used survival stand out. The first main way she used survival was when she chopped a nest of wasps off a tree to prevent being killed by another district. The second example of survival was when Before Katniss rests and goes to sleep in the Games, she chooses to set snares to protect herself against fellow tributes 

Katniss Survival plays a huge part in the Hunger Games and is one of the central themes in the book. One example of this survival is Katniss using her skill of survival when she cut a wasp's nest off a tree. Katniss did this as she had a strong alliance attempting to kill her. Rue, who is hiding within another tree, gives her the idea to drop the wasp nest to scare them off so she can escape. Katniss realized this would be the best chance she would get to make it out of there alive, so she saw they were all asleep so it would be unexpected and they wouldn’t have a chance to defend or avoid it. Although whilst she was sawing the wasps nest off she was stung multiple times which could have potentially killed her. This describes one way katniss used survival in the hunger games.

Katniss demonstrates survival through trusting another person in the hunger games named rue. She trusted rue and formed an alliance with her as rue was the one who helped her scare the allegiance trying to kill her by giving her the idea of sawing the wasps nest off. When Katniss passed out from the wasp stings Rue helped her a lot by giving her a safe space to rest, keeping her warm and essentially keeping her alive. Forming an alliance with Rue was a very good survival decision for Katniss as Rue helped Katniss destroy all of the supplies owned by the stronger alliance attempting to kill her.Rue did eventually die which was a bad ending for the suo but this did motivate katniss to survive even more as that is what Rues last wish was as she said “win the hunger games for me Katniss”. This describes how survival is used in the hunger games.


Through a thorough study of the Hunger Games it is clearly shown that survival is a theme that authors want readers to think about. Katniss has shown her survival skills by chopping a nest of wasps off a tree and trusting rue.Katniss cut the nest of wasps off a tree to avoid being stung and distress the alliance causing them to leave Katniss allowing her to survive. She also trusted Rue who helped her destroy the alliance’s resources which led to them being disadvantaged helping Katniss with her survival. These examples clearly show how Katniss has survived the hunger games.
