Mario Götze (Part 2)

Mario Götze continued to be a key player for Bayern Munich, showcasing his attacking prowess and goal-scoring ability. He made significant contributions in various competitions, including the DFB-Pokal and Bundesliga.
Götze started the season by opening his scoring account in the DFB-Pokal against SC Preußen Münster and followed it up with goals in Bundesliga matches against Wolfsburg and SC Paderborn. Notably, he scored braces against SC Paderborn and Werder Bremen, demonstrating his clinical finishing and attacking impact.
His performances earned him recognition, as he was included in the 23-man shortlist for the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or. Götze's goal-scoring ability was highlighted by his stylistic long-range goal against Hoffenheim, which was voted Bundesliga goal of the week.

However, Götze also faced challenges during the season, including a penalty shootout defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal semi-final. Despite criticism from some quarters, including from Franz Beckenbauer, Götze's teammate Arjen Robben defended him, emphasizing the importance of experiencing and overcoming adversity as a player.
Overall, Götze concluded the season with 15 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions, reaffirming his status as a key contributor for Bayern Munich.
In the 2015-2016 season, Mario Götze continued to contribute to Bayern Munich's success with his goal-scoring and playmaking abilities, despite facing some challenges.
Götze started the season by scoring a goal in Bayern's DFB-Pokal win over FC Nöttingen, showcasing his scoring instinct early on. However, he initially struggled to make a significant impact in the squad in the subsequent games.

His breakthrough came on 16 September 2015, when he scored the second goal against Olympiacos in the Champions League, helping Bayern secure a 3-0 away win. His performance earned praise from Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, indicating his growing influence on the team.
Götze continued to impress in the following matches, providing an assist in Bayern's win against Wolfsburg and scoring a goal against Dinamo Zagreb. He further showcased his talent by scoring and assisting a goal in Bayern's victory against Borussia Dortmund.
Despite facing challenges and some inconsistency in his performances, Götze managed to score six goals in 21 appearances during the 2015-2016 season, demonstrating his importance to the Bayern Munich squad.

Mario Götze's return to Borussia Dortmund in 2016 marked a significant moment in his career, as he aimed to rediscover his form and make an impact with his boyhood club.
After confirming his return to Dortmund on a four-year contract, Götze made his official comeback in a 1-0 loss against RB Leipzig on 11 September 2016. Despite the defeat, he received praise for showing promising signs of his abilities.
Just three days later, Götze scored his first goal for Dortmund since his return, opening the scoring in a historic 6-0 away win against Legia Warszawa in the Champions League group stage. This goal marked an important moment for Götze personally and showcased his potential impact on the team.

As Götze continued to re-adapt to Dortmund's system, he played a key role in their victory against Bayern Munich on 20 November 2016, providing the assist for the only goal of the game. This performance demonstrated his ability to make decisive contributions in important matches.
However, Götze faced challenges later in the season when he was dropped from the Dortmund team due to a mystery illness identified as myopathy, a metabolic disease that can cause fatigue and weight gain. This illness was believed to have contributed to his fitness problems in previous seasons with Bayern Munich and upon his return to Dortmund.
Despite these setbacks, Götze managed to make appearances for Dortmund during the season, finishing with two goals in 16 appearances. His perseverance and determination to overcome obstacles highlighted his commitment to returning to peak form and contributing to his team's success.

Following his return from a metabolic illness, Mario Götze made a significant comeback to the field for Borussia Dortmund, demonstrating his resilience and determination to overcome challenges. On 14 July 2017, Götze returned to action in a friendly match against Urawa Reds, where Dortmund secured a 3–2 victory. This marked an important milestone in his recovery journey, showing that he was ready to resume playing football.
Götze made his first start in seven months on 19 August 2017, in Dortmund's 3–0 away win against VfL Wolfsburg to kick off their 2017–18 Bundesliga season. During the match, he provided an assist and displayed a strong work ethic on the field. Dortmund's coach Peter Bosz praised Götze's performance but emphasized the importance of managing his midfielder carefully to ensure his full recovery.

Throughout the season, Götze continued to contribute to Dortmund's campaign, making a total of 32 appearances and scoring two goals. His return to form and consistent performances showcased his determination to overcome adversity and make a positive impact on the team.
Despite facing challenges, Götze's comeback highlighted his resilience and commitment to returning to his best form for Borussia Dortmund. His contributions on the field were crucial to Dortmund's success during the season, demonstrating his importance to the team.

Mario Götze achieved a significant milestone in his Bundesliga career by scoring his 50th goal in the league. This milestone came during a match against Hoffenheim, which ended in a thrilling 3–3 draw.
What's remarkable about Götze's achievement is not only reaching the 50-goal mark but also the impressive record associated with his goals. Up to that point, Götze had never been on the losing side in any Bundesliga match in which he had scored. This streak extended to an incredible 43 matches, highlighting his influence and impact on the outcome of games when he finds the back of the net.
This statistic underscores Götze's ability to make a difference for his team and reflects his knack for scoring crucial goals that contribute to positive results. It's a testament to his skill, consistency, and ability to deliver when it matters most on the field.

On the opening day of the 2019–20 Bundesliga season, Mario Götze marked a significant milestone in his career by making his 200th competitive appearance for Borussia Dortmund. He entered the match as a second-half substitute for Marco Reus in a convincing 5–1 victory over Augsburg.
However, despite this milestone, it was announced on 23 May 2020 by Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc that Götze would be departing the club at the end of the season. This decision signaled the end of Götze's tenure with Dortmund. His final appearance for the team came in a 1–0 defeat against Bayern Munich, just three days after the announcement of his departure.
Before Dortmund's last match of the season against 1899 Hoffenheim, Götze bid farewell to the club and its fans at the Westfalenstadion, marking the end of an era for the talented midfielder at Borussia Dortmund.
