Jose Mourinho was born on January 26, 1963 in Lisbon (Setubal), Portugal. His mother Maria Julia was his primary school teacher. She always encouraged Jose to be a successful and competitive boy. Jose's father, Felix Mourinho, was a goalkeeper. Jose wanted to follow in his father's footsteps from the very beginning, but he was constantly pressured by his mother to become a successful businessman and focus on his education. With Maria's separation from her husband Felix, Jose's sensitivity about the direction of his life became even more pronounced. Maria enrolled her son Jose in a business school, but Jose, who wanted to be a successful athlete, dropped out on day one.

Mourinho started working part-time jobs when he was only 13-14 years old. Around this time, his father Felix had quit his job as a goalkeeper and started coaching. Every chance he got, Jose would escape to his father's training sessions, where he would observe how a soccer training session was conducted and how the players were trained.
Jose became a boy who admired his father and always wanted to follow in his footsteps. Jose was looking for and finding a way to go to all of his father's matches, including away games. Seeing Jose's devotion and desire for football, his father Felix Mourinho gave instructions to Jose and asked him to pass these instructions on to the players in training. As a result of this opportunity and the experience he gained, Jose learned a lot about tactics and game systems at a young age. When he was only 15-16 years old, Mourinho was preparing analyzes about the teams they would play and presenting reports to his father. His support was directly reflected in the success of his father and the team.

Wanting to follow in his father's footsteps, Jose started his professional soccer career in 1980 with Rio Ave. Unlike his father, who was a goalkeeper, he was a midfielder. Jose scored 2 goals in 16 games for Rio Ave, 1 goal in 35 games for Sesimbra and 8 goals in 27 games for Comercio. Jose's short career as a footballer was limited to playing for his country's teams. He received a lot of criticism for not being a fast and strong enough footballer. Jose voluntarily decided to end his football career and focus on his education career.

Despite ending his career as a soccer player, Jose was determined to direct his life through soccer. This time he had to be on the side of those who manage the game, not those who play it. Jose graduated from the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the Technical University of Lisbon after 5 years of study and started coaching in schools. Then he started coaching the U17 team of Setubal, the team of his hometown.

Jose Mourinho started a new adventure in 1992 after working as an assistant, manager and youth team coach at football clubs. In addition to his brilliant football knowledge, Jose was also a practiced language learner, speaking Italian, Spanish, Catalan, French, English and Portuguese. In 1992, English legend Bobby Robson was put in charge of Sporting Lisbon. In order for Bobby Robson to communicate with the players, a translator with a high level of football knowledge was needed. Jose was the perfect man for the job. Here he redefined the role of management in football, combining coaching knowledge with linguistic, motivational and psychological techniques. Manager Robson was amazed by Jose's football intelligence. He soon promoted him from translator to assistant coach. Jose was a coach again.
Bobby Robson, who worked for Sporting Lisbon for 1 year, left the club and went to Porto, another Portuguese team. Robson did not give up on his assistant Jose. Jose's successful Porto career started in this way. Jose, who worked as an assistant coach at Porto between 1993-1996, played an important role in the team's successes and attracted attention day by day.
Jose went to Barcelona in 1996 with Bobby Robson. However, Robson's Barcelona career lasted only one year. Despite this, Jose continued as assistant coach at Barcelona. In 1997, the club brought Louis Van Gaal as technical director. Mourinho worked as Van Gaal's assistant between 1997 and 2000, during which time he won 2 championships with Barcelona. In September 2000, he left Barcelona and returned to his country and worked as assistant to Jupp Heynckes at Benfica. Mourinho left Benfica within a week because he was not made 'Head Assistant Coach'. Jose took charge of the Portuguese team Leira in January 2001. This was also his first experience as a head coach.

After 1 year in Leira, Jose's path crossed once again with Porto. When Jose finished 3rd in the league in his first season at Porto, his seat started to shake. Then Mourinho addressed the fans. "Next season we will be champions". At the beginning of the 2002-2003 season, Mourinho's Porto carried out a serious restructuring of the squad, letting go of star players and signing hard-working players who were capable of playing a team game. In the end, as promised, Mourinho made his team champions with 96 points in the 2002-2003 season. Porto also won the UEFA Europa League Cup and the Portuguese Cup in the same season. In 2004, Mourinho won the Portuguese 1st League title again with FC Porto and in the same year won the Champions League, the highest honor in European football. The 2003-2004 Champions League season was one of the most memorable in history for football fans.

After his successes, Mourinho went to Chelsea in England. He won two consecutive Premier League titles at Chelsea. Thanks to his achievements at Chelsea and Porto, he was considered one of the greatest coaches by the press and his colleagues. He was also voted the best manager in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons. He left Chelsea at the beginning of the 2008-2009 season.

On June 2, 2008, he signed a three-year deal with Italian football club Inter. He achieved his first success in Italy by winning the Italian Super Cup. Inter became the Serie A champion of the 2008-09 season. In the 2009-10 season, he left behind a very successful year by helping Inter win Serie A, the Italian Cup and the Champions League.

Real Madrid then signed Mourinho to a four-year contract. He failed to win the league title in his first season, but found solace in winning the Copa Del Rey. In his second year, he managed to win both the Spanish Super Cup and LaLiga by defeating Barcelona. The 'Trophy Hunter' coach had now realized his biggest dream, winning titles in all three major leagues. Mourinho, who resigned from Real Madrid, is back in charge of Chelsea

In his second season with Chelsea, he ended the team's 5-year title drought. In his third season at Chelsea, Mourinho suffered 9 defeats in 16 games, a record never seen before in his career.

Mourinho signed for Manchester United at the start of the 2016-17 season. After winning the Community Shield Cup in his first game, Mourinho went on to win the League Cup and UEFA Europa League with the English team in the same season.

Jose Mourinho fired his last bullet on the island with Tottenham. He had failed to achieve the desired lasting success at this club as well.

At the beginning of the 2021-22 season, he signed with Italian team Roma. Here, too, he won the scheduled Conference league for the first time.
