I have a fondness for the femme fatale.
Because a femme fatale creates happiness.
Perhaps the luckiest thing that can happen in this world is to be kissed, out of the blue, by a beautiful woman.
It carries a kind of joy comparable to winning the lottery.
A femme fatale deals in calculated, unreasonable kisses. That is precisely why she creates happiness.
You can witness this, for instance, in Bandidas (2006).
Twin sisters, whose father was killed by a corrupt wealthy man, swear revenge on the bank behind it all and begin orchestrating a series of crimes.
Both sisters are stunning—one played by Salma Hayek, the other by Penélope Cruz.
To bring down the bank, they set out to recruit an accomplice.
By sheer chance, the man they choose is a serious, straight-laced bank clerk.
Why would such a rigid man end up cooperating with these criminal sisters?
The answer lies in their dreamlike strategy.
They abduct the clerk, bind him to a bed, and straddle him in deliberately provocative attire.
Their makeup is flawlessly vivid—naturally, their lips bloom like flowers in full glory.
They force a kiss upon him. His lips are stained a vivid red.
A timer camera hidden in the room captures the moment.
Photograph after photograph is staged, fabricating the appearance that this earnest clerk is engaged in indecent play.
With each shot, his lips grow redder still—
all through the kisses of these beautiful criminal sisters.
His reddened lips seem to testify that the extraordinary happiness imposed upon him in that moment rivals the total earnings of a lifetime spent in banking.
The femme fatale creates happiness. And the femme fatale wears brilliant red lipstick.
