Install Pinokio

For Windows:

1. Download the .zip file - https://github.com/pinokiocomputer/pinokio/releases/download/3.9.0/Pinokio-3.9.0-win32.zip

2. Unzip the downloaded file and you'll see an .exe installation file.

3. Install: Run the installation file. A Windows security warning will appear because the app was downloaded from the web. To continue, click "More info" and then "Run anyway".

For Mac:

2. Install (IMPORTANT!): The Pinokio for Mac installer includes Sentinel, which allows you to run open-source apps not in the App Store. Simply drag and drop the Pinokio.app application into Sentinel to "unquarantine".

For Linux:

In my personal experience, one of Pinokio's strengths—and why I would recommend using it if you're interested in these topics—is the reduction of the "mental friction" involved in configuring complex tools, especially for AI models that often have multiple dependencies, environment variables, and GPU requirements.

This has both advantages and disadvantages (depending on how you look at it): since it's not a fully virtualized environment, the file system can be accessed both inside and outside of Pinokio. This requires a properly functioning computer, as there's a potential risk of "breaking things" outside of Pinokio that could affect your system. However, this feature saves space by preventing each environment from downloading the same models repeatedly.

I find the installation to be very simple and accessible for any user. Once installed, you'll see a number of preconfigured applications ready to run. So far, almost all of the ones I've tried have worked very well. Pinokio takes care of cloning the repository, installing Python and the necessary libraries, and even running the startup script, all with a single click. For those who prefer to focus on using the model rather than debugging configuration issues, this is a major innovation.
