THE IMPORTANCE OF VISION BOARDS IN ACHIEVING GOALS

Vision boards –

They’re the Hollywood representation of aspirations and goal setting, but do everyday people use them and are they really helpful?
Yes, everyday people use them, but their helpfulness relies on your motivation and hunger to succeed in your career and life.
Read on to find out more about the power of vision boards in your journey to success.

WHAT IS A VISION BOARD?

A vision board is a physical tool that’s used to clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a particular life or business goal.
For example, a vision board is often a pinboard filled with magazine cut out images and words that meaningfully relate to the goal you want to achieve.

VISION BOARDS SHOW MENTAL GOALS

Whatever your goal, a vision board will help visualise it.
The mental images and goals once stored solely in your mind are now right in front of you and motivating you to achieve.
If your goal is to buy your first home, your vision board should be filled with ‘For Sale signs’, (or better yet, ‘Sold’ signs) and budgeting plans. Also, interior and exterior home design images, house plans and whatever images or words that inspire you towards your dream home are great for your vision board.

How to create a useful vision board:

Find pictures, quotes, and sayings that represent the goals, things, or feelings you want to have in the upcoming months or years. Your work vision board should be kept at work so you’ll be motivated throughout your workday. If you like your work vision board, make a personal vision board to keep at home as well. There are no “rules” when it comes to creating a vision board. You can use anything that has meaning to you.

  • Create a list of goals you want to complete in the upcoming and the following year. Spend some time thinking about what you want your business to look like or what you want to accomplish at work this upcoming year. Write down what you’ll need to accomplish to achieve those goals as well. Do you need to call 10 more people, research 6 more companies, or close 4 more sales a day? Breaking down what you need to accomplish each day or each week will make your goals seem more achievable.
  • Collect old magazines, find pictures online, or find some images laying around your home. Cut out pictures from the magazines that represent what goals you want to accomplish. Are you trying to reach a new promotion or level in the office? Find a picture of a ladder so you can climb to the top. If you want to meet more people around the office, a picture of friends out to eat may be perfect. The picture doesn’t need to be exact, you just need something that will inspire you.

Benefits of Using a Vision Board for Mental Health

Vision boards may also provide a number of mental health benefits that can potentially boost mood and well-being. There is not a great deal of research specifically on the potential value of vision boards in terms of their efficacy or impact on mental health. However, some evidence suggests that the goal-setting associated with vision boards can have a variety of positive effects.

It’s important to remember that your vision board is just that—a vision of a future that hasn’t happened yet. In order to make that dream a reality, you need to commit to taking the steps and doing the work that it will take to make that vision a reality.
Instead of thinking of these boards as mere “visions,” it might be more useful to view them as action boards that detail not only what you want, but how you plan to go about achieving it.

How to do it:
Set the mood. Turn off the TV and turn on some relaxing music. Light a candle and clear your space.
When it comes to actually putting your stuff on the board, I like to leave space in between each item because clutter clouds my mind. I like space. However, if you love the feeling of closeness and want everything to touch and overlap, then huddle it all together and overlap your objects. As for choosing what makes the final cut, lay everything out before you start gluing and pinning so you can get an idea of where you want everything.

How does a vision board help bring you closer to your dream life?

A vision board is a visualization tool. Images can have a deep effect on your imagination and allow you to envision your dreams more vividly.
The first step is to get clear on your goals. If you don't know what you want, how are you supposed to work towards that dream...So ask yourself: What kind of life do I want to live? What makes me the happiest? How do I wish to spend my days?
The second step is to keep your focus on those dreams. Having your dreams loud and clear in front of you daily helps to work towards them consciously and subconsciously. Return to your vision board as often as possible - it's a great way of getting your daily motivation and fortifying your willpower.
