THE LAST BUS STOP

Tunde was always late. Every day he missed the 7pm last bus in Oshodi, and had to walk home 2 hours.

One night, he ran and made it. He jumped in, panting.

The bus was full, but silent. No one was looking at their phones. Everyone just stared forward.

Tunde sat next to an old woman. He said "Good evening ma."

She didn't answer.

He checked his phone. No signal. 7:03pm.

The conductor came. "Your fare."

Tunde gave him N500. The conductor looked at his hand. The N500 passed THROUGH his hand and fell on the floor.

Tunde's heart stopped.

The old woman finally turned to him and whispered, "You were supposed to miss this bus. Like every day."

Tunde looked out the window. The bus wasn't going to his street. It was going into a thick white fog, where all the other streets ended.

He closed his eyes and shouted "I DON'T WANT TO ENTER!"

He opened his eyes.

He was standing at the bus stop. The bus was driving away. Empty. 7:01pm.

From that day, Tunde was never late again. And he never took the last bus.

Some buses you miss for a reason.
