Good Morning Bulb Family!

Hope you are doing well! Today, I've decided to delve into various topics. Every country boasts its own culinary specialties, especially in its cuisine. When it comes to beverages, the preferences vary widely across cultures. In many non-Muslim countries, alcohol takes precedence over other drinks. Some nations have a deep-seated love for coffee, while here in Pakistan, tea reigns supreme.

In Pakistan, tea holds a special place in people's hearts, often regarded almost as a form of medicine. It's believed that a single sip of tea can alleviate stress, depression, and other woes.

In this article, let's explore the different flavors of tea popular in Pakistan. Here, when I mention 'types,' I'm referring to the various flavors available.

Now, I think it's time to delve into today's topic. But before I begin, if you haven't checked out my previous articles, I encourage you to do so.

Different Tea Types in Pakistan: Delicious Flavors

The love of chai and cricket intertwines in modern Pakistani culture, as both have deep-rooted traditions in the country. Starting the day with chai, often served as bed tea in upper-class households, is a longstanding tradition.

Tea is also a staple part of breakfast for the middle-class. At dhabbas, or truck stops, truck drivers, laborers, and others in remote locations enjoy food served in clay utensils, along with their chai.
In essence, Pakistani culture would feel incomplete without chai.

Typical Tea Blends in Pakistan:

Chai varies significantly from person to person, depending on individual preferences. It typically consists of tea leaves, milk, and various spices blended together to create a delightful flavor.

Here, we'll describe some of the tea flavors available in Pakistan:

Mélange:

In Pakistani households, most tea is prepared using a mixed tea blend. Tea ingredients are added to a pan and boiled for around 10 to 15 minutes.

Separate/Dissolve Tea:

This type of tea, referred to as English-style tea in Pakistan, involves boiling water with tea leaves first, followed by the addition of milk to the brewed mixture.

Doodh Patti

Doodh Patti completes the sweetness of mixed tea. Along with tea leaves, it only includes milk and sugar. This beverage is readily available everywhere, including truck stops and dhabbas.

Fragrant Masala Tea:

Locally known as masala chai, this spicy tea is popular in the southern region during the winter months. It incorporates cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, pepper, and other local spices.

Kashmiri Tea:

Kashmiri tea, prevalent in the region, is also highly admired throughout the country. Topped with pistachios and almonds, it resembles a pink dessert, akin to strawberry ice cream. This blend is typical at weddings, celebrations, and other joyous occasions.

Matka Chai:

In recent years, Matka Chai has become a trendy choice, especially during the winter season. This sweet tea is infused with spices, usually cardamom. The fascinating aspect is the process of cooking it in a clay cup over flames, causing it to boil when dipped in the tea pan. Tea in a cup placed on a heat source starts to sizzle.

Herbal Kehwa:

Kehwa, a herb found in northern areas, offers various locally sourced flavors. Pakistani kehwa, a strong tea brewed in most parts of the country, is typically served with sweets and heavier dishes as a dietary beverage alongside food.

Green/Herbal Tea:

Herbal tea excludes any leaves from the Camellia plant family. There are three main varieties:

  1. South African Rooibos Tea
  2. Mate Tea, upon request
  3. Infused Herbal Teas

Herbal infusions comprise solely of plant materials like herbs, flowers, and fruits. In regions with cold winters, hot tea is popular for staying warm.
Other Herbal Blends:

Tamura:

Unique to Gilgit Baltistan, Tamura tea features fresh, wild herbs from high-altitude locations boiled with water to create herbal tea. It induces instant relaxation.

Daarcheni (Cinnamon) Tea:

This herbal tea variety is more intricate. Cinnamon bark infuses black tea leaves and milk to create a simple cinnamon tea
