What is an Airdrop?
An airdrop in crypto is when a blockchain project gives out free tokens or coins to users.
It’s usually done to:
Promote a new project
Reward early supporters
Increase awareness
Decentralize token ownership
Simple Example
Imagine a new crypto project launches a token called ABC.
Instead of selling everything immediately, they give:
50 ABC tokens
to people who:
Used their testnet
Held a specific coin
Joined early
Completed small tasks
That free distribution is called an airdrop.
Types of Airdrops
Retroactive Airdrop
Given to users who already interacted with the project before the token launch.
(Example: Using a DeFi app early)
Task-based Airdrop
You complete tasks like:
Follow on X
Join Telegram
Invite friends
Holder Airdrop
If you hold a specific token, you receive another token automatically.
Testnet Airdrop
You test a new blockchain network and later get rewarded.
Why Projects Do Airdrops
Marketing
Community building
Reward loyalty
Create hype before exchange listing

Important ⚠️
Not all airdrops are legit. Be careful:
Don’t connect your wallet to suspicious websites
Don’t share your seed phrase
Avoid paying “claim fees”
