The Dead Internet Theory Is Not a Theory Anymore
AI is getting smarter, faster, and harder to detect. The social platforms we have grown to love and use are being flooded with fake AI generated accounts and content. You know that Dead Internet Theory? Well it is not a Theory anymore. After 2020 we have seen massive changes in social media platforms and the content we see. Almost everything you see now is AI generated or AI was used to help create it. The amount is growing and over the next couple of years we will have no idea who or what is real or fake.
A good amount of news companies are using AI to write articles. It is getting harder to syphon through the news articles and find out what is real and what is fake. People are using AI to create fake scenarios. Just today I saw a video that looked like a lady was sucked into an MRI machine. I could tell it was fake but I think in the next couple of years (maybe even just one year) we will not be able to tell.
They are flooding social platforms with fake AI generated content creators, fake pictures, and fake videos. Who knows what is real anymore. The internet is Dead. I think it officially died 5 years ago when we were all worried and tucked away in our houses. I also think a good amount of these platforms sharing this AI content are AI agents run by these major companies. This is just speculation though.
So lets go a little deeper and see how AI is being used for fraud and scams.
People are starting to use AI to create fake accounts, deepfakes, and other ways to trick people into thinking they are talking to a real person. This is a scary but exciting time to be alive and I think anyone using social media right now to connect to people should be extremely careful. Always have your guard up.
Since 2020, AI-powered scams, including phishing, deepfakes, social engineering, and voice cloning, have surged by over 450%, and now account for more than 50% of all digital fraud worldwide. Losses from these scams have soared, with Americans losing over $158 billion in 2024 alone, and global scam losses reaching $1 trillion. In 2025, 82% of phishing emails and 44% of deepfake fraud schemes use AI tactics, making such attacks far more scalable and sophisticated than ever before.
I even used AI to create these charts for this article. The information is correct but it just shows you how some random person can make charts and graphs to fool the public. Using AI is not entirely bad but as much good as it can do, it can do 10X that in bad.
I did not write this article to scare anyone. I wrote it to show everyone how fast AI is being incorporated into our lives. The internet is changing and we need to be as vigilant as ever when we are online.
I hope everyone enjoyed the article. This is all just my thoughts and ideas. I do not know what exaclty is going on because I am just some dude searching for answers. Either way the information I have found so far is concerning to say the least. Let me know your thoughts about all of this in the comments. Do you think the internet is dead?
Thanks for reading and Until next time 💪
