The Legend of Timun Mas

Sirni's mother was a widow who wanted a child so she could help her work. One day, he was visited by a giant who wanted to give him a child. The condition is that when the child is 17 years old, he must be handed back to him to eat. Sirni's mother agrees. The giant gave him cucumber seeds to plant and care for. After two weeks, one of the planted cucumbers bore the largest, golden-shining fruit. Then, Mrs. Sirni cut the cucumber carefully. Unexpectedly, inside the cucumber was a beautiful baby named Timun Mas.

As time passed, Timun Mas grew into a beautiful girl. One day a giant came to claim his promise. Sirni's mother was very afraid of losing Timun Mas, she held out on her promise that the giant would come in two years. The giant agreed. He thinks that the older he gets, the more delicious Timun Mas is to eat. Sirni's mother loves Timun Mas even more. On the other hand, he feels anxious and sad when he remembers his promise. One night Sirni's mother had a dream. In his dream, it was stated that in order for his son to be safe, he had to meet a hermit on Bald Mountain.
Without thinking much, in the morning Sirni's mother went straight to Mount Gundul to meet a hermit who gave her four small packages, namely cucumber seeds, needles, salt and shrimp paste as an antidote. When they got home, Mrs. Sirni gave the four packages from the hermit to Timun Mas and asked him to pray.
In the morning the giant came again to collect his promise. Timun Mas was asked to leave through the back door by Mrs. Sirni. The giant saw Timun Mas coming out of the back door, he chased him. While running away, Timun Mas remembered the four packages he had kept. He also scattered cucumber seeds in the forest. Miraculously, cucumber seeds become a field of cucumbers full of fruit. The giant eats cucumbers which increase his strength. Then Timun Mas sowed the needle. In an instant, the needles turned into very tall and sharp bamboo trees. The tree hurt the giant's leg,but the giant continued to chase with bloody feet. Seeing the giant still chasing him, Timun Mas opened the packet of salt and sprinkled it. Instantly, the forest became a vast ocean. The giant was able to pass through.
Finally, Timun Mas opened the shrimp paste, immediately a boiling sea was formed. The giant was unable to save himself, he died in the sea of ​​mud. Finally, Timun Mas expressed his gratitude and he could live happily with Mother Sirni.
