The Old Welder and the Spoon

Young guy went to meet Baba Sule - 40 years welder for Apapa.

" Baba, I wan learn welding, but arc too bright, smoke too much, I no fit."

Baba Sule no talk. He gave him a spoon and a pot of cold eba.

"Stir this eba."

Boy tried. Eba hard. Spoon nearly broke. "Baba, eba too hard."

Baba said, "Go put am for fire."

Boy put pot for fire. 5 minutes later, eba soft. He stirred easily.

Baba said:

But when you put yourself for fire - wake early, read, practice, fail, try again - you go soft. You go become easy to shape.

Boy understood. He went back to workshop.

6 months later, he could weld overhead, vertical, horizontal. Not because he became talented. Because he stayed in the fire long enough.
