Earlier this week, the Nigeria Football Federation,
NFF, confirmed that the Super Eagles will
participate in a Four-Nation Invitational Tournament
in Amman, Jordan.
Hosts Jordan, Iran, and Costa Rica are the other
teams taking part in the tournament.
Here is the kicker: the fixtures will be played during
next month’s FIFA men’s international match
window.
It is the same window when the Intercontinental
World Cup playoffs will be held.
This has led to worry among fans, as the NFF has a
pending complaint with FIFA over DR Congo’s use
of ineligible players during the CAF World Cup
playoffs, which the Super Eagles lost on penalty
kicks.
“Of course, the NFF is unsure, like we all are,” Ope
Adebari, a sports analyst, reporter and producer
with News Central, tells DAILY POST.
“It makes sense to move on and involve the Super
Eagles in the 4-nation tournament as they prepare
for their involvement in the next Africa Cup of
Nations.”
But why has there been a delay from FIFA in
delivering a verdict in the NFF’s case against DR
Congo?
