It has been pointed out that Japan’s continued reliance on petrol-powered vehicles, despite the impact of the situation in the Middle East, is due to a combination of factors, including long-term energy policy, industrial structure and consumer preferences. In light of this situation, some experts and members of the public have suggested that consideration should be given to introducing mobility restrictions that would involve a phased review of car use itself.
