I was down to my last $100.

Not in my bank. In my life.

January 2022. Rent was due in 6 days. My freelance client ghosted me. And my “genius” crypto trade from December had just liquidated. I stared at my MetaMask like it owed me an apology.

I walked to the corner store to buy instant noodles. The cashier, Uncle Musa, knew me. He said, “You look hungry, my son.” I tried to laugh it off. He didn’t.

He packed a small bag. Rice, beans, tomatoes, one sachet of Milo. “Pay when you can.” I was too ashamed to take it. He put it in my hand anyway. “Nobody survives Lagos alone.”

That night I ate and opened my laptop. No strategy. No capital. Just desperation and Wi-Fi. I saw a post: “Looking for someone to moderate our Discord for $400/month.” I’d never modded before. I lied and said I had.

I got the job. I studied every night after shifts. Learned about bots, scams, community. That $400 became $4000 in 3 months. I paid Uncle Musa back 10x. He refused. Told me to “find my own hungry person.”

Today my portfolio is green again. But the best investment I ever made was free rice from a man who saw me, not my wallet.

Crypto talks about decentralization. But the real revolution is remembering we’re human first.

Before you chase the next 100x, check on your people. Someone’s one bag of rice away from giving up.

Be Uncle Musa today.
