Side Effects of Caffeine

8 Dec 2022

What is Caffeine?

Caffeine is a naturally occurring stimulant found in tea, coffee, and cacao plants.

It works by activating the brain and central nervous system, allowing you to stay alert and prevent fatigue.

Common Side Effects of Caffeine

Caffeine has a number of short-term negative effects that people may experience. These negative effects are more common when higher doses of caffeine are used.

  • Flushed face: Caffeine dilates blood vessels, which promotes flushing of the cheeks and other regions of the body.

  • Insomnia: Caffeine is frequently consumed to promote wakefulness, which can occasionally interfere with sleep. In some situations, people may have difficulty falling asleep or achieving peaceful, restorative sleep.

  • Restlessness: You may also find it difficult to rest or calm yourself down after taking coffee. Although this side effect may appear to be pleasant, we all require rest. If you are not tired enough to sleep, your body may not have enough time to restore itself. You may not feel fatigued, but your body will grow exhausted if you do not take regular rest from exercise.

  • Anxiety: Caffeine might help you feel more alert, but too much can cause anxiety and anxiousness. Because caffeine can activate your body's fight-or-flight response, you may feel on high alert.
