Cricket is a bat-and-ball game between two teams of eleven players on a field at the center of which is a 22-yard (20-meter) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at the wicket with the bat and running between the wickets, while the fielding side tries to prevent this by preventing the ball from leaving the field and by dismissing the batsmen.

How to play cricket

Cricket is played in a series of "overs," each of which consists of six balls bowled from one end of the pitch. The batting side has two batsmen on the field at a time, and they take turns facing the bowler. The bowler's goal is to dismiss the batsmen, either by bowling them out, catching them out, or running them out.
Bowling
The bowler delivers the ball to the batsman from one end of the pitch. The ball can be bowled in a variety of ways, including fast, slow, or spin. The bowler's goal is to make it difficult for the batsman to hit the ball.
Batting
The batsman's goal is to hit the ball and run between the wickets. The batsman can hit the ball in any direction, and the fielding team tries to prevent the ball from leaving the field. If the ball leaves the field, the batsman scores a "boundary" and runs four or six runs, depending on how far the ball went.
Dismissals
There are several ways to dismiss a batsman:

  • Bowled out: The bowler bowls the ball and it hits the stumps, knocking off the bails.

  • Bowled out in cricket
  • Caught out: The batsman hits the ball and it is caught by a fielder before it hits the ground.

  • Run out: The batsman is out if he is not in his crease when the fielding team puts down the wicket.

  • LBW: The batsman is out if the ball would have hit the stumps if the batsman's leg had not been in the way.

  • Handled the ball: The batsman is out if he touches the ball with his hand while it is in the air.

  • Stumped out: The batsman is out if he is not in his crease when the wicketkeeper puts down the bails after the bowler has bowled the ball.

The end of the innings
The batting side's innings ends when all 11 batsmen are dismissed or when they have scored a predetermined number of runs. The fielding side then becomes the batting side, and the process is reversed.
The winner
The team that scores the most runs at the end of the match wins. If the two teams are tied at the end of the match, a tie is declared.
