Desmond Gudyu, a security guard employed for Corporate Victoria Gardens Security Company, is accused of fatally punching Akeem Nuhu, 26, on Lugard Avenue in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

After Nuhu promised to pay him rent, Gudyu, who was hired to protect a nearby building, allegedly allowed him to stay in his security position.

On Monday, October 10, Nuhu, a motor boy for a clean water company, neglected to pay the agreed-upon amount, which set off the problem.

They reportedly got into a fight over it, during which Gudyu allegedly hit Nuhu, causing her to fall and die.

The only resident of the house was the security guard, according to a local contractor named Ayo Ipadeola. Nuhu, the victim, was homeless while working at a pure water company. That's why he made a deal with Gudyu to spend the night in his security post in exchange for payment.
“So, he would wake up in the morning, go to work and return in the evening. But on Monday evening when the incident happened, the security guard accused Nuhu of owing him some rent and they started to argue. It was in the process that he slightly punched Nuhu. He fell and became unconscious.”
He claimed, "He passed away the following morning around 7am. His body was placed in the Ebute-Metta mortuary at the Federal Medical Center for an autopsy.

An anonymous trader said that Gudyu's security firm informed the police about the occurrence.

"I'm aware that the house's owner doesn't reside there. Gudyu was just engaged to protect the property; they were unaware that he was also renting out space."
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police's public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence.

The suspect has been detained, and an investigation is underway, he declared.
