My Experience Mining ICE Tokens — Was It Worth It?
As a longtime advocate of “free crypto mining” projects for earning tokens without investing upfront, I’ve been diligently promoting ICE Network since first discovering it. If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know I frequently cover these opportunities. After 7 months mining ICE daily, let’s discuss if the rewards ultimately proved worthwhile.
I first posted about ICE mining on Instagram on July 15, 2023 when the project entered opening phase. The concept appealed to me — use your phone to mine the ICE tokens for free. Of course with any free mining project, the big question is what the tokens will be worth when fully distributed.
After mining daily from mid-2023 up until the recent ICE token distribution on February 28, 2024, I had accumulated around 120,000 ICE tokens. Not bad for just leaving my phone running and clicking a button! Now that ICE is trading on exchanges around $0.008, my haul is worth about $960 at the time of writing.
Given the time invested, is this a satisfying reward? I have to admit, it’s lower than I expected. I envisioned those 120,000 ICE tokens making me a nice little profit. In reality, by the distribution date, 1 ICE ended up equaling less than 1 cent — not the outcome I anticipated.
However, for a completely free crypto mining project that just required a little daily attention, I can’t complain too much. It did provide some value without any financial risk on my part. I’ve covered far worse free mining opportunities that never even got their tokens to public exchanges. So the ICE Network delivered on their promise, albeit with less upside than I hoped for.
My bigger criticism involves ICE’s poor communication around changing mining requirements late in the program. Initially, token earnings were based purely on phone activity without any other strings attached. But in Feburary 7, 2024, they suddenly imposed mandatory quizzes where miners would forfeit all previous earnings if failed. This outraged much of the community who put in daily mining effort for months with different expectations.
So at the end of the day, while I don’t regret spending a few minutes a day to accumulate some free crypto, ICE Network could have managed communications better with its loyal miners. I appreciate the tokens earned, but can’t say I’m overly thrilled with the experience.
I’ve already shifted focus to other up-and-coming projects for passive crypto earnings. As veterans of these free mining opportunities know, you have to spread your efforts across multiple options to maximize potential gains. Some will fail to deliver entirely. Others may exit the project. A few might succeed and provide surprise upside years later.
It’s a numbers game, so on to the next one! But I’ll still take those free ICE tokens and let them ride in my wallet for now. Maybe in 5 more years they’ll be worth something more substantial.
