Sir Roderick David Stewart CBE, born on January 10, 1945, is a British rock and pop singer-songwriter renowned for his distinctive raspy voice and enduring impact on the music industry. Although born and raised in London, Stewart's ancestry is Scottish and English. His remarkable career has established him as one of the best-selling music artists globally, with over 120 million records sold worldwide.


Stewart's musical journey commenced in 1962 when he started busking with a harmonica. He swiftly became part of several bands, including The Dimensions, Long John Baldry and the All Stars, the Jeff Beck Group, and Faces. Concurrently, he maintained a solo career, marking the beginning of his diverse musical endeavors.



The turning point in Stewart's solo career occurred with the release of his third album, "Every Picture Tells a Story" in 1971. The album, including the iconic track "Maggie May," achieved chart-topping success worldwide, solidifying Stewart's status as a prominent artist.



Following the Faces' breakup in 1975, Stewart continued his solo career, producing numerous hit singles, particularly ballads like "Sailing" from the album "Atlantic Crossing." His streak of success continued with albums like "A Night on the Town" (1976), "Foot Loose & Fancy Free" (1977), and "Blondes Have More Fun" (1978), featuring hits like "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)" and "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy."



In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Stewart's music evolved into a soft rock style, marked by the success of the single "Rhythm of My Heart" and the album "Vagabond Heart" (1991). During the early 2000s, he explored the Great American Songbook, releasing successful albums that showcased his interpretations of standards from the early to mid-20th century.



Stewart's achievements in the music industry are extensive. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked him as the 17th most successful artist on the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists" list. He is a recipient of Grammy and Brit Awards, further highlighting his musical excellence. His vocal prowess is acknowledged, with Q Magazine ranking him at No. 33 in the list of the Top 100 Greatest Singers of all time.



In terms of recognition, Stewart was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 as a solo artist and again in 2012 as a member of Faces. He was also honored with induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006.



These inductions and accolades underscore Stewart's enduring impact on the music industry, solidifying his legacy as one of the most influential figures in rock and pop music history. In 2016, he was knighted for his contributions to music and charity, further recognizing his remarkable career.
