Thread Of Life

Ramesh was a student of class 8. When he was in class, he would think of playing outside and whenever he got a chance to play, he would think of traveling somewhere… In this way, he would never enjoy the present moment but would think of something or the other ahead. His family and friends were also troubled by his habit.

Once Ramesh went out alone for a walk in the nearby forests. After walking for a while he felt tired and lay down on the soft grass. Soon he felt sleepy and slept.

After some time of sleeping, a voice came – “Ramesh…Ramesh…”

When Ramesh opened his eyes, an angel was standing there in white clothes. She was very beautiful and held a magical wand in one hand, and a magical ball in the other hand with a golden thread hanging from it.

Ramesh jumped with joy after seeing the fairy! And after talking to the fairy for some time, he said, “I know the stick you have in your hand, but how is this golden thread hanging from the ball you are holding?”

Pari smiled, “Ramesh, this is no ordinary thread; In fact it is the thread of your life! If you pull it lightly, a few hours of your life will pass in a few seconds, if you pull it a little faster, the whole day will pass in a few minutes, and if you pull it with full force, even years will pass in a few days. "

“So can you give this to me?”, Ramesh asked curiously.

“Yes-yes, why not, take this…hold it…but remember that once you go forward in time, you cannot go back.”, Pari said while handing over the rope of life to Ramesh and immediately disappeared. It's done.

The next day Ramesh was sitting in the class thinking about playing, but how could he go out if the teacher was around?

Then he thought of the golden thread ball given by the fairy. He slowly took out the ball and pulled the string a little… within a few seconds he was playing in the field.

Wow, it was fun!”, Ramesh thought in his mind!

Then he kept playing for some time, but as per his habit of not living in the present moment, he again got bored after some time and started thinking that there is no fun in living like a child, why don't I pull the strings of my life. Go away in my youth.

And immediately he pulled the string a little faster.

Ramesh was now a married man and was living with his two lovely children. His beloved mother, who loved him more than life itself, was now old, and his father, who used to carry him around on her shoulders, was old and sick.

Ramesh was a little sad for his parents due to this change, but he felt very good after having his own family and children. Everything went well for a month or two, but Ramesh had never learned to live his present happily; After a few days, he started thinking - “How much responsibility of the family has fallen on me, it is not so easy to take care of the children and on top of that there is the tension of the office! The health of my parents is also not good… It would be better if I retire and live a comfortable life.

And while thinking this, he pulled the thread of life with full force.

Within a few days he became an 80 year old man. Now everything had changed, all his hair had turned grey, wrinkles were hanging down, his parents had left him long ago, even his beloved wife had died due to some disease. He was completely alone at home, only occasionally his children living in other cities would talk to him.

For the first time in his life, Ramesh was realizing that he had never enjoyed his life… He neither enjoyed his school days nor looked forward to college, he neither went out anywhere with his wife nor visited his parents. Spent good moments with his father… He could not even see the childhood of his beloved children properly… Today Ramesh was very sad. Looking at his past, he was able to understand that in his restlessness and anxiety, he had lost many of the small things of his life. -Small happiness lost just like that.

Today he was remembering the day when the fairy had given him that magical ball… Once again he got up and started going to the same forest and sat in despair at the same place where he had met the fairy in childhood and started shedding tears.

Then someone's voice came, "Ramesh... Ramesh."

When Ramesh looked back, once again the same angel was standing in front of him.

The fairy asked, “Did you enjoy my special gift?”

“At first I liked it, but now I hate that gift.”, Ramesh said angrily, “My whole life passed before my eyes and I didn't even get a chance to enjoy it. Yes, if I had lived my life normally there would have been happiness as well as sorrow but because of the magic ball I could not experience any of them. Today I feel completely empty from inside… I have wasted this precious life given by God”, Ramesh said in disappointment.

“Ohhh…instead of being thankful for my gift, you are criticizing it…well, I can give you another gift…tell me what do you want?”, the fairy asked.

Ramesh did not believe that he could get another boon; He became emotional with happiness and said… “Mm..mm I..I want to be the same school boy again…I have understood that one should live every moment of life, the one who curses 'now' never He is unable to be happy…his life remains hollow…please…please…give me back my old days…. Please…please…please no…”

Just then a voice comes… “Get up son… how did you come here… in these forests… and what were you muttering in the dream, please… please…”

Ramesh opens his eyes… seeing his mother in front of his eyes, he hugs her tightly and starts crying bitterly.

He thanks the fairy in his mind and swears that now he will live the precious moments of life to the fullest… and will not waste his today by daydreaming and thinking about tomorrow.

Friends, are you able to relate yourself to Ramesh? Many times it happens that we are not able to see the beauty of today just because we are lost in thinking about a beautiful tomorrow… or many times we burn our today on the pyre worrying about the happening of what did not happen. …wreak havoc. We should not do this…small moments of happiness should be lived to the fullest, once the thread of life is pulled, it never comes back. Someone has rightly said – “Yesterday will never come and tomorrow may never come…so live your life today…celebrate happiness today itself.”
