Where Is God While Fighting Coronavirus?

The whole world is going through a very difficult time. It is the biggest epidemic of the last century after the Spanish Flu of 1918 and it deeply affects millions, even billions of people, physically, spiritually, economically and sociologically. At this stage, it is unclear to what extent and how long the coronavirus epidemic will last. Of course, in such a period, we are all struggling with fears and perhaps disappointments. Some of us are stuck at home, away from our loved ones, wondering about our loved ones. Some of us are losing our jobs. We are entering into a great financial and spiritual collapse, and the worst part is that we cannot see the future. So why is the world full of such difficulties? Why do these things happen to us? What should we do?

Coronavirus, Religion and Science

For some reason, there is a perception that religion and science are rivals, in conflict and even enemies. There are many reasons for this, but this is absolutely wrong and shallow thinking. God, who created the universe, has the highest level of scientific knowledge, and if we, as the seers and shepherds of his creation, can use science, conduct research and bring health, goodness and beauty, this pleases God the most.

In this period, we can see that some from different faiths and different authorities put aside science, do not listen to suggestions, and seek only a God-focused solution. Of course, God wants us to be trusted and this will lead us to gain God's favor, but that is certainly not the only way of life that God wants from us. God also gave us wonderful gifts: Thanks to our mind and body, we can apply our cognitive inferences and create good and beautiful. We can fix what's broken. We can cure diseases. Especially when we look at the last century, we have made incredible progress. Concepts such as science, art and literature are not enemies of God, but are God's desire and the purpose for which we were created. God created man to care for, protect, and develop his creation. We can see this in the Bible:

From the ground the LORD God formed all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air. He brought them all to Adam to see what he would call them. Whatever Adam called each living creature, that name was called that. Adam gave names to all the domestic and wild animals and the birds that fly in the sky. (Genesis 2:19 -20)

As seen here, God included Adam in his creation. Adam served as a kind of steward, shepherd and steward. At this point, Adam is actually a kind of first biologist, zoologist, natural and species scientist.

Trusting Science for God

In light of this, what we want to say is that scientists, doctors and authorities should be trusted, their suggestions should be taken into account and the necessary precautions should be taken by each individual. In this way, we can protect both ourselves and our environment against this great risk. In this way, many lives can be saved and at the same time we will take a big step towards the humble life that God wants from us. In fact, Jesus Christ gives a very important and beautiful answer on this subject:

To test Jesus, an expert in the law asked Him: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the Law?”

Jesus answered him, “'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and most important commandment. The second commandment, similar to the first, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 'On these two commandments rest the whole law and the prophets.' (Matthew: 22: 35 – 40)

Since we need to live our faith with our minds and love our neighbors as ourselves, we should listen to the suggestions and not go out unless there are absolutely necessary reasons. We must protect both ourselves and the people around us.

God and Hope

When God created the Earth, He created only good, life, health. He did not create death, disease, or evil. Unfortunately, our choices, which started with Adam and Eve, came down to us, and continue with us, have brought us to this point. We had two options: Either we would eat from the tree of life and entrust the knowledge of good and evil to God and have a life full of health and vitality, or we would know good and evil like God and we would try and take risks. We chose to take risks and brought death and disease upon ourselves. This is how sin, disease, and death entered the world and we disrupted the balance of nature. We have corrupted everything that God created to be good. Coronavirus is actually just one of all these bad consequences.

So is God stronger than this coronavirus pandemic? Of course it's strong! We absolutely believe in this. This is stated in the Psalms of the Bible:

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.

“He is my refuge and my fortress,” I say of the LORD,
“He is my God, in Him I trust.”

For He
saves you from the hunter's snare and from the deadly disease.
He takes you under his wings,
you take shelter under them.

His faithfulness will be your shield and bulwark.
You will not be afraid of the terror of the night,
nor of the arrow that flies by day,
nor of the disease that stalks in the dark,
nor of the resentment that destroys at noon. (Psalm 91: 1 – 6)

Good news

However, there is good news that is more beautiful and lasting than the recovery of our diseases and the end of the coronavirus epidemic. A news stronger and deeper than illness, death, and tears:

God came to earth in human flesh, Jesus Christ, and chose to die on the cross for our sins. In this way, He defeated the death that resulted from our sins on the cross. He also gave us hope in his resurrection 3 days after his death on the cross:

“Since death comes through a man, resurrection from the dead also comes through a man. Just as all die in Adam, so all will have life in Christ. Each will rise in his turn: Christ as the first example, then those who belong to Christ at the coming of Christ. After this, the end will come when Christ abolishes every government, every authority, every power and surrenders the sovereignty to God the Father. For God must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be eliminated is death.” (1 Corinthians 15:21-22)

Revelation, the last chapter of the Bible, describes the new creation as follows:

I heard a loud voice rising from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is among men. God will dwell among them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be among them. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death. There will be no more mourning, no more crying, no more suffering. Because the previous order has disappeared.”

The one sitting on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Later write!" He added, “Because these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me, “Okay!” He said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To those who are thirsty I will give water freely from the fountain of the water of life. The victor will inherit these. I will be his God, and he will be my son. (Revelation 21:3 – 8)
