4 Steps 2 Develop The Habit Of Reading

9 Nov 2022

1. Love What You Read

“If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book” - JK Rowling

"Read what you love until you love to read" - Naval Ravikant
There are endless books on endless topics in endless genres. Read books that you are super interested in. Don't read books for the sake of reading or for the sake of popularity. You may love fiction books, don't read a finance book.

2. Consistency

"If you want to be successful [with reading], you need consistency and if you don't have it, you've got no chance" - Paul Merson "Consistency Is Key" - Evan Fournier

With an area in life if you want success you have to be consistent. Try to read every single day even if it is only 5 minutes of reading. Small daily actions compound over the long run and yield success.

3. Make It Easy

"If we want to form new habits, we should make them obvious, attractive, easy, and satisfying" - Atomic Habits

Creating A New Habit - Make It Easy Removing A Bad Habit - Make It Difficult Wherever you go keep a book with you. Wherever you find time, waiting for your Starbucks or waiting for a friend pull out your book and read instead of mindlessly scrolling on your phone

4. Distraction Free

"By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination" - Christopher Columbus

There are endless distractions and our phones are probably the biggest. When it comes to reading you want to make it as frictionless as possible. Find a quiet room/space to read in away from your phone, tv, laptop, and friends/family. Focus on the book in front of you.
