Jamal had 3 days left before his truck got repossessed.

He was an independent courier. No truck = no job = no rent. His bank account had $47 and a pending $200 ticket he couldn’t fight. He spent the last week sleeping 4 hours a night, taking every gig from 5am to 11pm, and still came up $800 short.

He almost called his dad. Haven’t talked in 4 years. Too much pride, not enough options.

On day 2, he got a delivery to an old warehouse on the edge of town. The guy who signed for it was Mr. Delgado, 70+, running a small auto parts shop out of the back. Delgado looked at Jamal’s truck, saw the repo sticker on the windshield, and said nothing.

Jamal delivered the parts, turned to leave, and Delgado stopped him.
“You drive that thing hard. Engine’s making a knock.”

“It’s fine,” Jamal lied.

“It’s not fine. Pop the hood.”

Delgado spent 2 hours under the truck with Jamal, no charge. Turned out it was a loose rod bearing. Cheap fix if you catch it early. Expensive if you don’t. He let Jamal use the shop lift and tools after hours.

“Pay me when you can,” Delgado said. “Or don’t. Just don’t let it die on the highway.”

Jamal made his payment on day 3. With 6 hours to spare.

A year later, Jamal’s running 3 trucks. He still uses Delgado’s shop for maintenance. He keeps a spare set of keys for any driver who shows up with a repo sticker.

When people ask how he pulled out of that week, he doesn’t talk about the 18-hour days or the gig apps.

He just says:

God did.
