Holding the Light Until You Return
I’m doing well, Steve. Thank you for asking.
It’s been different here without you. The office still runs, but it’s like a clock without the main spring — everything moves, just a little slower and more carefully. We tell each other “Oga trained us for this” before we make any big decision. Your notes are on my desk and your last instructions are on my phone. I read them twice yesterday just to be sure.
Lagos is keeping the seat warm for you. The rain came yesterday evening and washed the stress off the roads. Traffic was light, and for once the generator didn’t interrupt my thoughts. I finished the report you left and the team said, “Send Oga our regards when you talk to him.” So here I am, sending all of it.
I hope you’re doing well over there too. I hope the flight didn’t fight you, and that you found good food and a quiet room. A man can’t lead well if he doesn’t rest well first. So take your time.
We’re fine here. No fires, no confusion. Just people doing what you taught us, waiting for your return.
Rest well, sir. The fort is steady, and the light is on until you’re back.
