If you can dance crazily and allow the happiness fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without warning us to be careful, be practical, or recall the limitations of being human, I want to know if you can be with joy—mine or your own.

Whether the tale you are telling me is true or not doesn't matter to me.
If you can let someone down in order to be true to yourself, please let me know.

If you can stand up to the accusation of treachery without losing your own soul.
If you can be trustworthy while also being unfaithful.

Do you have the ability to see beauty even when it is not always attractive?
And if you may draw energy for your own existence from its presence.

If you fail, as you and I will, can you still stand at the edge of the lake and yell "Yes!" to the silver of the full moon?
Where you reside or how much money you have has no bearing on me.

I'm wondering if you can get up after the night of sorrow and misery, even though you're exhausted and bone-weary, and do what needs to be done to feed the kids.

Who you know or how you got here doesn't matter to me.
If you stand with me in the middle of the flames without flinching, that would be great.

Where, what, or whom you studied with doesn't matter to me.
I'm curious as to what keeps you going internally when all else fails.

I want to know if you can be by yourself and if you actually enjoy the company you keep while you're by yourself.
