Somnia Launches Blockchain Metaverse Designed for Millions of Users
Developed by the Virtual Society Foundation, an independent organization spearheaded by Improbable, the Somnia Blockchain is EVM-based and optimized for the metaverse. In the initial prototype, it has demonstrated 100,000 transactions per second with sub-second settlement.
Somnia provides protocols that content creators can use to build worlds and enable assets, trade, and avatars to move seamlessly across various experiences.
Somnia is inspired by the work and research of leading industry partners such as Improbable, who have developed innovative technologies like MSquared Origin.
The Somnia protocol allows existing NFT collections to be enhanced and rendered as operable 3D objects compatible with metaverse experiences on the network, thereby increasing their value.
The Somnia protocol has the potential to capture a significant portion of the total TVL from the blockchain gaming, metaverse, and NFT sectors, which, when combined, approach $100 billion and are expected to grow significantly in the coming years.

The launch of Somnia will kickstart a new creator economy, with the network designed to incentivize creators to share and collaborate on content. This will enable avatars and objects to be sold anywhere, across any blockchain.
Values will be shared among all participants in the ecosystem, and everyone will have a voice. This is expected to be the beginning of a real virtual society where a new creator economy can thrive.
The Somnia Betanet protocol is also integrated into the MSquared Origin experience engine. This will enable events for 10,000 participants in music, sports, and gaming experiences.
The Somnia Betanet will allow users to create operable avatars and build their identities in the metaverse through collaboration with Avaturn.
With their new avatars, users will be able to explore large-scale events and deep experiences. Improbable and Msquared have produced major metaverse events such as official virtual matches with MLB and the launch of Kpop albums with TWICE.
