A round-up of the best blockchain games to try this month
Every month we provide an overview of the best play and earn games in Web3, and this December month won’t be any different. This list of games has been made with the idea that you can play the game, participate in a beta test or have the opportunity to earn some crypto tokens. January 2024 is looking hot, and now let’s dive into the 10 play-to-earn Web3 games you need to check out this first month of the year.
1. Pixels
With Pixels, we start this list of games with a familiar name. This January, Pixels will launch a play-to-airdrop campaign for their upcoming PIXEL token. Most likely only the most dedicated and active players will be able to earn PIXEL for their efforts.
Pixels is a farming simulator, mixed with elements of role-playing games. Players need to build their farm, gather resources, craft items and trade assets. The Pixels team recently migrated to the Ronin Network, which has given the game a boost in activity. Many players farm BERRY tokens this way.
2. Axie Infinity Homeland
On 10 January 2024, Sky Mavis will move Axie Infinity Homeland into maintenance mode. However, the game will make a comeback by the end of the month. Axie Infinity Homeland will have a significant upgrade, and very likely this will be the first serious attempt at bringing land gameplay to the Axie ecosystem. By playing this game you can earn AXS token, so keep your eyes open to see the impact of this major update.
3. Age of Dino
The mobile, prehistoric base building pet battle game Age of Dino will have a major NFT drop this January. On 10 January they will auction off their Dinosty PFP collection with bidding starting at 0.2 ETH to 0.59 ETH. Age of Dino is somewhat comparable with other popular mobile games, as players build a base, train soldiers and battle each other, while also creating guilds. It’s a recipe often referred to as 4X Strategy, as players continuously need to improve, build and defeat opponents.

4. Last Remains
With Last Remains we add a zombie survival MMO to our list, and this January they will have some major milestones. First of all, the Search & Rescue update will make gameplay gas-free, but probably even more important is their public alpha test. Starting from 20 January they will have a 24 hour play test every 2 weeks. For only 6 MATIC you can find a character NFT at the floor. This character NFTs allow you to have access to all play tests, you can also stake them, and play Season 0.
5. Nifty Island
Nifty Island has been building through the bear market, and is now ready for a huge play-to-airdrop campaign for their upcoming ISLAND token. Starting from 17 January, players can use one of the 60 partner avatars to compete and farm ISLAND.
Within Nifty Island anybody can build a game, or a virtual experience. However, developers can get access to more tools, features and island space by being active and investing. You can compare Nifty Island with a Web3 version of Roblox, filled with your favorite NFT brands.
6. BloodLoop
The competitive shooter BloodLoop is making moves in Web3, and with the upcoming free NFT mint for their 1,099 SEM Capsules they are making big moves. These SEM Capsules will give holders access to various features and future perks, but probably the most enticing would be the token airdrop. BloodLoop will launch a BLS token in the future, and these NFTs play an important role.
7. Echoes of Empire
The 4X strategy game Echoes of Empire is getting ready to let you conquer the galaxy. Gala Games and Ion Games are planning to launch the desktop-only game on 30 January. In Echoes of Empire you need to build, upgrade and own massive fleets as you wage war across the galaxy. Players can also own Celestial deeds, giving them a stake in the virtual universe and for example the ability to create a business in resource production.
8. Legends of Elumia
One of the games to watch this month, would be Legends of Elumia. This next generation MMORPG has hit the radar of various Web3 influencers, which increases the chance of the native ELU token going up. With partners like Animoca Brands, Crypto.com and various guilds Legends of Elumia is well positioned to gain traction this year.

9. Sipher Odyssey
The action role-playing game Sipher Odyssey has been picking up traction over the past two weeks. Right now they opened the final closed alpha test for their community, and they’ve been building throughout the bear market. Sipher Odyssey is coming to mobile devices, and depending on the reception this could heavily impact the price of SIPHER. In this fast-paced mobile game you can play as various characters, for example Sipherian Surge and Sipherian Flash.
10. Shrapnel
The first person shooter Shrapnel is looking to extract some of your attention, as they are preparing to launch “STX.01” somewhere in early 2024. They didn’t state a date, but don’t be surprised if this will happen in January. STX.01 is the name of an open play test where players can compete for 3 million SHRAP tokens in prizes.
