High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) was a research program jointly funded by the US Air Force, Navy, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The program was located in Gakona, Alaska, and it was active from 1990 to 2014.

HAARP's primary purpose was to study the ionosphere, a portion of the Earth's upper atmosphere that is located between 50 and 600 km above the Earth's surface. The program used a high-power, high-frequency radio transmitter array to conduct experiments in the ionosphere.
