Glow (I)
My face is buried in my phone, giggling over the text messages I received. It is indeed a great day. Goodbye home loner, welcome outing bitch. No more time for stress, no more lonely days. Good things are happening. This is the beginning of a new chapter in my life after years of yearning for this moment.
I dressed up happily in the best outfit I thought would fit the occasion, the moment, and the activities that will take place tonight. "This is comfortable and sweet enough" I whispered to myself as I quickly carried my bag and went for the event of the night. Arriving, I stepped out of a taxi. I walked inside a classic-looking restaurant in front of me. It was covered in glass, I automatically could hear the music playing at a moderate level and the laughter of the customers. The restaurant's aura was of a cool and positive vibe. Just a few seconds after entering the place with my eyes hovering around, I gazed sharply to the left. I saw a hand waving at me with the indication that he was my person for the night. I walked towards him wearing a big smile.
"Hello" I sat down.
"You look lovely," He said sharply
"Thank you, you look great as well"
"I never thought this would work out"
"Oh really?" Shock stained my face. "Tsk, why did I dare think differently from start" I muttered to myself
"What? Are you saying something"
"Me, n no nothing," I gave out a fake smile
The waiter walked in with some food and drinks. He placed it on our table and we loud-whispered "thank you". Then he returned to his affairs at the restaurant.
"I already ordered before you got here, let's dig in"
I joined him in eating but I couldn't help but wondered what kind of person orders food for someone without caring about the opinion of the person involved. That was not an issue, his cute face took over my thoughts and imagination. At that moment, I wished food wasn't the only thing I was having for dinner.
"Is something wrong?" Dave raised his face to look at me
"Nothing, I need to use the bathroom" I got up. Smiled. Turned away, rolled my eyes, and mutters as I walked quickly into the convenience. In there, I spoke to myself through the mirror.
"Hey, you need to up your game girl. This night has to end well. You need to show him that you're charming, don't dare turn him off. I portrayed a straight face with seriousness at this point as I spoke. "You're indeed beautiful, I'm sure before tonight's dinner is over he'll be stuck with you" I slapped my cheeks with both my palms and leaped in joy. One minute after, I returned to my dinner of achievement.
"Sorry I took quite long"
"Not at all, it's okay"
Instantly, before I could utter a word, a call came in on his phone. He excused himself to answer it. When he returned, the atmosphere of the room changed.
"I have to leave, duties call. Let's do this again Gail"
"Sure Dave, Take care"
He walked away. I was soaked in disappointment. Yes, this night is not going to end as I expected. Another failed expectation. I asked for an acholic drink. Then I began drinking wastefully. I blamed myself for driving him away and for acting stupidly. I started looking down at myself, maybe I'm not good enough or beautiful. If I was, maybe he wouldn't have left me here alone. Flash news! Once again I'm back to being a loner. Suddenly I heard a voice, I was too tipsy to reply in my right sense.
"Hello miss, it's his loss."
"What do you know? I'm a loser" I shouted as I drummed on his chest.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to provoke you but it's time to leave" He sounded gentle.
"I have nowhere to go," I wailed. I could feel myself slipping right into his arms, dozing off.
