*The story of Elijah after Mount Carmel - 1 Kings 18:41 to 19:18*

*1. The victory on Mount Carmel*
After 3 years of drought, Elijah challenges 450 prophets of Baal to a contest. Both sides prepare a bull for sacrifice. Elijah’s God answers with fire from heaven that consumes the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the water. The people fall on their faces and cry, “The Lord, He is God!”
Elijah then kills the prophets of Baal, and prays for rain. A small cloud appears, and a heavy rain ends the drought.

*2. The crash*
Right after this massive victory, Queen Jezebel sends Elijah a message: “So may the gods do to me and more, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.”
She’s furious that he killed her prophets.

*3. The running and despair*
Elijah gets scared and runs for his life to Beersheba, then goes a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sits under a broom tree, completely burned out, and prays:
“Lord, take my life. I’m no better than my ancestors.”
He’s exhausted, alone, and feels like a failure. Even after seeing fire fall from heaven, he wants to die.

*4. God’s response*
God doesn’t scold him. Instead:
- An angel wakes him twice with food and water so he can eat and rest.
- God lets him sleep. Elijah travels 40 days and nights to Mount Horeb.
- In a cave, God asks, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
- Elijah pours out his frustration: “I’ve been zealous for You, but Israel has abandoned You, and now they want to kill me.”

God shows him He’s not in the wind, earthquake, or fire - but in a “still small voice.”
Then God gives him 3 instructions: anoint new kings and a prophet, and tells him he’s not alone - 7,000 in Israel haven’t bowed to Baal.

*The point of the story*
Even the strongest believers get discouraged after big spiritual highs. Burnout, fear, isolation, and fatigue are real. But God meets Elijah in his weakness with rest, food, presence, and a reminder that he’s not alone or forgotten.
