During the French colonial period, this building was called Hotel de ville. in French or Dinh Xa Tay in Vietnamese. During the Republic of Vietnam, it was called Saigon City Hall because it was the working and meeting place of the capital government. Since the reunification of Vietnam until now, the building has been the workplace of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. The current address is 86 Le Thanh Ton Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, located right at the beginning of Nguyen Hue Street facing the Saigon River.

This work was designed by architect Femand Gardè to simulate the Paris city hall in the style of bell towers in Northern France, with the middle part being a high pointed tower, two sides with two floors of opposite roofs, on the left and the right side of the building is lower than the rest.

The facade design of the building has a mixture of many European architectural styles such as Renaissance architectural floor plan, Baroque and Rococo-style relief decoration, Art Nouveau-style iron doors... It was here, during the years of resistance against the French and the Americans, that the city's people organized protests and strikes to protest against the colonial government and its henchmen. After many years, although it has been renovated according to Western architectural style, it has not obscured its ancient appearance.

Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History is located at 2 Nguyen Binh Khiem Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, next to the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden. This is a place to preserve and display tens of thousands of precious artifacts collected inside and outside Vietnam. The museum was built in the "innovated Indochina" architectural style, designed by French architect Delaval, and implemented by the contractor Etablissements Lamorte Saigon in three years 1926 - 1927 - 1928. When construction started (1926), This building was intended to be the Mexican Exhibition Institute, then planned to be the Economic Exhibition Institute, but in the end it was decided to be the Blanchard de la Brosse Museum.

The middle part of the Museum has an octagonal block (reminiscent of the concept of the eight trigrams of the I Ching) with 2 roofs covered with tube tiles, with stylized phoenix and dragon decorations attached. At the top, there are 4 spheres gradually getting smaller and placed on top of each other. Therefore, some people believe that this roof contains many elements of ancient Chinese architecture. In 1970, the Museum was built an additional part behind a row of houses designed by architect Nguyen Ba Lang. The row of houses is U-shaped, in the middle is an open-air ornamental pond, two rows of houses connect the two sides, and finally there is a row of three-storey houses with two layers of roof, with decorative dragon heads attached to the corners of the roof.
