Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United team-mates are ‘not against’ the 22-year-old’s return to the first team next season, according to reports.
Greenwood was facing charges relating to attempted rape and assault but the case against him was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the withdrawal of key witnesses.

Man Utd team-mates open to Mason Greenwood return

The forward is currently on loan at Getafe after Manchester United decided not to reintegrate him back into the first team for the 2023/24 campaign.
There has been speculation all season over Greenwood’s future, however, with talk of a permanent transfer amidst reported interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, new Red Devils minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not ruled out a return for the Getafe loanee, admitting that a decision over his future has not been made.

It would not be surprising whatsoever to see Greenwood back in the Manchester United team next season, with former CEO Richard Arnold reportedly ready to reintegrate the 22-year-old in the summer before online backlash saw a U-turn.
And a report from The Sun says Greenwood’s United team-mates have ‘secretly offered its support in a poll’, with many players in the dressing room ‘not against him returning to Old Trafford’.

A source told the newspaper: “His team-mates would not be against him returning to Old Trafford.
“They know all about the background and understand how controversial it would be to have him back.
“Their decision is a footballing one, pure and simple.
“United have struggled to score goals this season and they need a player like Mason.
“They’re watching him score and create goals for Getafe every week.”
Unsurprisingly, this would be extremely controversial and the report adds that ‘his return would risk internal revolt, with the women’s team opposed to it’.
Greenwood has scored eight goals and provided five assists for Getafe this term.
He has not played for United since January 2022 and his appearance against Iceland in the Nations League in September 2020 remains his only senior international cap.
Interestingly, Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate did not rule out an international return for Greenwood but has confirmed he will not be in the squad for this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

“Well for me I don’t think it’s something for pre-Euros. I think allowing him to get his career going again abroad appears to have been a good move but I have to say I have not tracked it closely,” Southgate said.
“I think at this moment in time it would be a big distraction for the team and let’s see where that leads next season. I would need to know more details about the whole thing before it was an option.”

‘What are you doing?’ – Wright hits out at Liverpool star after Man Utd beat Klopp’s side

Ian Wright has criticised Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez for his role in Manchester United’s third goal in their 4-3 loss at Old Trafford.
The Reds threw away a one-goal lead on two occasions to lose their FA Cup quarter-final against Erik ten Hag’s side on Sunday with Man Utd drawing Coventry City in the semi-finals.

Harvey Elliott’s deflected effort had put Liverpool into the lead in extra time at Old Trafford but Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo both scored to give Man Utd the win.
While other pundits were praising Scott McTominay’s ball through to Rashford for Man Utd’s third goal, Wright was frustrated at Nunez‘s role from a Liverpool point of view.
When watching the clip back, Wright said: “You have to look at Darwin Nunez there. What are you doing there? The thing is, he’s got the capability to play it to the left-back. You don’t put it back into that area. You just don’t do that.”
When asked about Diallo’s winner, Wright added: “You could tell Amad has got everything out of it. It’s not a clean strike but it’s perfect.”

Diallo, who has suffered from injury this season after returning from a loan move at Sunderland last campaign, was delighted to score the crucial winning goal.

The Man Utd youngster said: “Dream come true. That goal will give me a lot of confidence and I want to continue like this. I’m very happy. The most important thing is to win this game.
“I wanted to give it back to Garnacho but I saw the defender and I had to go on my own.
“It is unbelievable, it is a dream for me to score the last goal for Manchester United. I want to say thanks to the supporters. It is one of the best games of the season so we want to continue like this.”
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson was frustrated for Diallo that he was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for taking his shirt off in celebration.
Thompson said on talkSPORT: “You know, I looked at the referee and I looked at his face, and as much as I was so angry, so frustrated, I was looking at the referee in the background as they were celebrating, and I went, ‘Oh no. He is going to get it’.

“I could see it in his eyes, lighting up, I am going to make it something nice, I am going to make a pretty name for myself here.
“He is a young kid, he has just scored one of the great winners in football, in the FA Cup quarter-final, and you have ruined it for the kid. As he trudged along the tunnel, I thought this is not the game.”

Jurgen Klopp resorted to personal insults after ‘dumb question’ from reporter

Jurgen Klopp stormed out of a TV interview with Norwegian broadcaster Viaplay after being asked about Liverpool’s intensity in their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
The German manager was clearly in no mood to chat after a defeat that ended hopes of a quaduple.

Jurgen Klopp: “That’s a bit of a dumb question”

Liverpool lost the game in extra-time after being 2-1 and then 3-2 ahead, with Klopp later admitting: “We didn’t finish the game off. When you leave the door open, away from home at Old Trafford, it’s clear they would get chances.
“It was really hard for us. That was the first time I really saw my team… oof… really struggling.

“When you’re winning, it’s a great position to watch a game. When you’re losing, it’s the worst feeling.”

But it was in an interview with Viaplay when Klopp’s frustrations came to the fore, when the reporter asked: “Normally, intensity is the name of your game so how come it became so difficult in extra time?”
Klopp reacted with disdain, saying: “That’s a bit of a dumb question. If you see us often, you can ask us the other times why we have so much energy.
“I don’t know how many games we’ve had recently and how many Manchester United have had. That’s sport.
“I’m really disappointed about that question, but you thought obviously it’s good.”
The reporter then tried to take Klopp’s lead and answered: “So, too many games?”
This led to a furious Klopp responding: “Oh you don’t think that. Come on! You are obviously not in a great shape and I have no nerves for you.”

Klopp says ‘wow’ to mental drain questions

Liverpool have played nine games in the space of little more than a month as they chased a quadruple of trophies, but many will question why Klopp played such a strong side in a Europa League game they had already won in midweek.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Mo Salah were among those who played a full 90 minutes in that game.
Asked later if there could be a hangover from the defeat, Klopp said: “No. Wow, you lose a quarter-final in the FA Cup and if there was a mental drain it would be really difficult if we have to deal with human beings like that.
“We’ve played football for ages and you lose games – if that always leads to a mental state or situation where you need help… it’s just a normal thing. We all fail on a daily basis, maybe without even recognising it – we just get along with it.
“Today, if you don’t give all then it’s not mentally [draining], but you have to react on it and the rest is [something] we are used to unfortunately since we were kids that from time to time we lose a football game.”

Ten Hag hails Man Utd performance as ‘best of our whole season’ as young trio picked out for praise

Erik ten Hag said the first 30 minutes against Liverpool were “the best of our whole season” for Manchester United, and he hailed three youngsters for their top performances in the FA Cup win.
It’s not been the easiest of second seasons for Ten Hag as United boss. After finishing third in the Premier League last season, reaching two finals – winning the League Cup in one – a lot would have been expected.

But the Red Devils are sixth in the league and were dumped out of the League Cup early on, as Newcastle United exacted their revenge for being beaten in last season’s final.
As such, the FA Cup represents a chance for something to shout about, and United offered that in abundance in the quarter-final against bitter rivals Liverpool.
The topsy-turvy game saw United twice go behind after scoring the first goal. With their opponents on top with eight minutes of extra time to go in the thrilling tie, some might have expected things were wrapped up.
But up stepped Marcus Rashford to level things at 3-3, and Amad Diallo then picked the perfect moment to be a hero, as he slotted just his second United goal past Caoimhin Kelleher in the 122nd minute, capping off a famous victory, before being sent off for good measure after removing his shirt.
After the match, Ten Hag praised his side for playing the best they have all season in the first half-hour, when they were winning 1-0.

“The first 30 minutes was the best of our whole season, we were acting as a team but then we got gaps between the lines and you can’t allow this against one of the best teams in Europe. They outplayed us,” he told ITV.
But after falling behind, the United boss hailed the spirit of his side for managing to fight back and win the game, particularly picking out three young players for their mature performances.
“Then we made changes, we took risks and the players were wonderful. The attitude was great, a strong belief to win this game,” he said.
“We have a team that is for the future. Coming up are players who are developing very well like Diallo, [Alejandro] Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo.”
Championship outfit Coventry await in the semi-final, and while it’ll be a tough game, Ten Hag wants to go into it with the mentality that his side will beat them.

“To go to the final we have to win against Coventry, we will have to play at our best. We saw that Coventry have great spirit, a great mentality. We will prepare our best to play in the final,” he said.
He also hailed Rashford for scoring an important goal and keeping United in the game, allowing them a potential path to the final.
“Rashford is resilient, he keeps going, normally he finishes those moments but he kept going for another chance. That inspired the other players,” Ten Hag added.

Ratcliffe groundwork sees Man Utd lead race for magnificent Arsenal, Real Madrid target

Manchester United are the best-placed club to sign Benfica star Antonio Silva despite him also being pursued by Arsenal, Real Madrid and Chelsea, according to a report.
Silva is only 20 years old but is already being touted as a player with world-class potential. He has forced his way into the Benfica starting eleven, having made 41 appearances across all competitions this season, while also becoming a regular for the Portugal national team.

Silva is a right-footed centre-back who stands at 6ft 2in, which makes him an imposing figure in both boxes. He is an exceptional ball-playing defender who makes up for a slight lack of pace with his brilliant game intelligence.
Silva loves getting stuck in and is usually high up in the Primeira Liga rankings when it comes to tackles and interceptions.
In February, former Tottenham Hotspur player Jan Vertonghen – who now plays with Silva at Benfica – said of the starlet: “The boy will be a legend. If he keeps doing what he’s been doing, he has everything to be one of the best defenders in the world in a year or two.”
In the past few months, Man Utd have been credited with an interest in both Silva and his team-mate Joao Neves, who operates in central midfield.

However, sources confirmed to TEAMtalk on February 28 that Arsenal, Real Madrid and Chelsea are all keen to land Silva, too.
GiveMeSport have now provided an update on the situation. They state that Man Utd are in the best position to sign the hugely exciting ace, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team have done the most groundwork for a possible deal.

Man Utd leading charge for Antonio Silva

Man Utd have initiated contact with Benfica to find out how they can win the transfer race. Benfica have told Ratcliffe and co. that they rate Silva incredibly highly and will therefore hold out for a massive €100million (£85.5m) before selling him.
That is clearly huge money, and it would break Harry Maguire’s record as the most expensive defender in the world following his £80m switch to Old Trafford in 2019.

But Ratcliffe is determined to make Man Utd one of the truly elite teams in the world again, and signing players such as Silva is the best way to do that. Silva could justify his price tag by becoming a crucial part of the Man Utd defence for the next 10 years.
ArsenalMadrid and Chelsea could all begin talks with Benfica in the coming months, but as things stand it looks like Silva may be heading to Man Utd in the summer.

Tottenham plot summer move for £341m-rated Barcelona sensation as Postecoglou eyes cover for trio

Barcelona are expected to sell several players in the summer due to their ongoing financial issues and Tottenham are reportedly keen to take advantage.
The likes of Raphinha, Frenkie de Jong and Alejandro Balde have been linked with moves from the Camp Nou to the Premier League in recent days.

Now, it seems that Tottenham are planning a raid for one of Barcelona’s most exciting young players – Mikayil Faye – who has a huge £341m release clause in his contract.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Spurs and Girona are ‘eyeing a summer move’ for Faye, who has been extremely impressive for Barcelona Atletic this season.

The centre-back has played 24 times for the youth side this term, scoring four goals in the process. Barca boss Xavi recently called him up to the first-team squad for a LaLiga game, too, although the player is yet to make his debut.
A powerful defender who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, the 19-year-old has all the ingredients to become a top-class player in the future.

Tottenham plot summer move for Barcelona youngster

Faye is under contract with Barcelona until 2027 and, as mentioned, his deal includes a £341m release clause.
The Catalans often hand huge release clauses to the youngsters in their ranks that they believe have top potential and Faye certainly fits into that category.
Barcelona could end up losing some of the most promising talents they have for reduced fees in the summer due to their financial problems and they are well-stocked when it comes to centre-backs, so Faye could be one of the first to head out the exit door.

The LaLiga giants have Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi who can play in that position.
Eric Garcia – who is out on loan at Girona – is also expected to return ahead of next season.
Araujo, Christensen, Kounde and Cubarsi have all been linked with moves away from the Camp Nou, though, so none of their futures are set in stone.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is reportedly keen to bolster his defence ahead of next season and the North London club’s scouts think that Faye would be a valuable long-term option.
The teenager could provide competition for the likes of Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and Cristian Romero next season.
If Faye lives up to his potential, he could certainly prove to be an excellent investment. Girona are also pushing to sign him, however, so Spurs will face competition for his signature.
