This is a continuation of my Starting in Tech story. It is one thing to make a decision and it is another thing to follow it through. After I decided to start a career in Data Analysis, I started sourcing learning materials on the internet. I did not have so much money so I couldn't afford a paid course. I made my first stop at YouTube as it is the home of knowledge that we all know. There were a lot of crash courses, videos, and channels to learn Data Analytics, but I was very confused as it was just a lot of information to take in and there was no structure or arrangement to it.
I started searching for scholarships and luckily for me, IngressiveForGood, a tech startup seeking to empower African Youths with tech skills was partnering with DataCamp to give out scholarships that would grant people free access to all the courses on the platform. I was very happy as this would be a huge step in my learning path, and I applied for the scholarship. Some weeks later, I received an e-mail that I was accepted for the scholarship. That made me very happy, and it was the official introduction to the world of data.
DataCamp gave me a very good introduction to the world of data, the different roles in the industry, and the various skill sets required to thrive in these roles. From this scholarship, I got the opportunity to interact with a lot of people and I was exposed to a lot more learning resources that have been helping me so far.
I have also begun to understand that transitioning into a new career, especially into the tech industry is not as easy as it may look. And it is going to take a lot of motivation to keep going as well.
