Airdrop Farming ile ilgili olarak Sybil ne anlama geliyor?
Kripto airdrop farming bağlamında "Sybil" terimi, genellikle tek bir kişi tarafından birden fazla kimlik veya hesap oluşturulmasını ifade eder.
İnsanlar "Sybil" terimini oldukça sık kullansa da, çoğu kişi kökenini bilmiyor. "Sybil" terimi, 1973 yılında Flora Rheta Schreiber tarafından yazılan "Sybil" adlı bir kitaptan türetilmiştir. Sybil'in hikayesi, birden fazla kişiliğe sahip bir kadın hakkındadır (tam olarak 16).
In airdrop farming, individuals create multiple wallets (or identities) to unfairly gain more tokens or cryptocurrency than they would be entitled to with just a single wallet. This is similar to how the character Sybil in the book had multiple personalities; in the Crypto world, one person or entity is presenting themselves as multiple participants.
Sybil Farming is bad, right…right?
On the surface Sybil farming comes across as an underhand process whereby one person “games the system” using multiple wallets to get more money through an airdrop. Given that most airdrops have a set allocation of tokens to distribute, and with Sybil farmers taking up significantly more of the share of wallets it means there is now less tokens to share around the real user wallets. Understandably that grinds the gears of many airdrop farmers.
However, if you take a deeper look below the surface you’ll see that they actually provide some surprising benefits that may outweigh their downside.
Positives are:

1. Inflating the number of wallets — by farming multiple wallets Sybils increase the number of active wallets that appear to be interacting with the protocol. This can increase interest and confidence in the project especially with investors who then pour more money into the project, which in turn can increase the funds available to be airdropped.
2. Challenging the system — inadvertently, as Sybil farmers farm more intensively and in larger wallet volume they can highlight vulnerabilities in a blockchain network or a crypto project’s distribution mechanisms. This can prompt developers to improve security measures, identity verification processes, and distribution strategies to prevent such exploitation in the future.
3. Innovation in fraud detection — The challenge posed by Sybil farmers can drive innovation in developing more robust anti-fraud and identity verification technologies. Projects are compelled to innovate and implement more sophisticated methods to ensure fair and secure participation.
4. Fees are Fees, Liquidity is Liquidity — Sybil farmers can argue that they pay their way anyway. Whether 1 person farms 10 wallets or 10 people farm 1 wallet each the protocol makes the same money. If someone spins up 1000 wallets, that’s 1000 wallets worth of fees. If all those wallets also add liquidity it then provides a much deeper liquidity pool for all wallets.

The challenge for most protocols that plan on doing some form of airdrop is to find a balance between being seen as trying to actively root out the most overt Sybil farmers while not decreasing active wallets down too much that they look unused compared to other projects so in turn become unattractive to new users and investors.

Will I get flagged as a Sybil farmer if I use more than 1 wallet?
It really depends on how many more than 1 you are talking.
Protocols generally aren’t interested in individual farmers with a handful of wallets, its the big farming operations that they want to be seen as going after.
There are genuine reasons why you could use another 1 or 2 wallets to airdrop farm, especially when considering security, a wallet could get hacked etc…
So if you only farm 2 or 3 wallets just don’t sweat it. I don’t believe we are near that place where protocols will go after those types of farmers.
And if you have more than 2–3 wallets?
If you look at the last big airdrop in 2023 which was Arbitrum, they applied some anti-Sybil rules*:
● Addresses transferring funds in a cluster of more than 20 addresses
● Addresses that are funded from the same source
● Addresses with similar activity

So with Arbitrum you could happily farm up to 20 wallets without being flagged as Sybil. Not only 20 wallets but 20 connected wallets.
However, I believe that as protocol’s get more advanced and more automated farming tools become available this number may reduce.
How do you protect yourself from becoming flagged as Sybil?
Don’t connect your wallets — in a recent Sybil review for the Connext airdrop they discovered that 85% of all the Sybil activity that they discovered revolved around connected wallets. Connected wallets means that transactions where made between a number wallets over time as to form a cluster of activity.
As stated before, if you are farming 2–3 wallets this isn’t an issue however if you are farming 10, 25, 50 or 100 wallets or more then this becomes a much more important point to pay attention to.
Ways your wallets can be connected:

1. Send funds to all your wallets from one single wallet as that single wallet becomes the common connector to all those wallets.
2. Rotate airdrop farming funds from one wallet to another. So you farm airdrop with wallet A and once finished you send all funds to wallet B to farm the airdrop again. Once finished with wallet B you send funds to wallet C etc… So each wallet is connected as you move funds from and to each one.
