Alicia Roanne Witt, born on August 21, 1975, is a multi-talented American actress, singer, and pianist. Her career began at a young age when she was discovered by David Lynch, leading to roles in notable projects such as Dune (1984) and Twin Peaks (1990).
Witt gained recognition for her role as Zoe Woodbine, the daughter of Cybill Shepherd's character, in the sitcom Cybill (1995–1998), which ran for four seasons. She showcased her acting prowess with a critically acclaimed performance as a disturbed teenager in Fun (1994) and appeared in films like Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) and Urban Legend (1998).


Her filmography also includes roles in well-known movies such as Vanilla Sky (2001), Two Weeks Notice (2002), Last Holiday (2006), and 88 Minutes (2007). Witt has demonstrated her versatility through various television appearances in popular shows like The Walking Dead, The Sopranos, Nashville, and Twin Peaks: The Return, among others.

Alicia Witt was born on August 21, 1975, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her parents are Diane (née Pietro), a junior high school reading teacher, and Robert Witt, who worked as a science teacher and photographer. Witt's mother gained recognition as a Guinness World Record holder for having the longest hair from 1989 to 1996. She has a brother named Ian.
Even from a young age, Witt exhibited remarkable intelligence and talent. She began speaking at the age of two and was reading by the age of four, leading to her being described as a child prodigy. Director David Lynch first noticed her acting abilities in 1980 when she recited Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet on the television show That's Incredible! at the age of five. This recognition led to opportunities in film and television, with Lynch becoming a mentor to her.


Despite her early success in the entertainment industry, Witt remained dedicated to her education and musical pursuits. She earned her high school equivalency credential at the age of 14 while continuing to excel in her piano studies. Witt began her stage career in 2001, debuting at Los Angeles' iconic Tiffany Theater in Robbie Fox's production, The Gift. Here, she portrayed a high-priced stripper, embodying the character with depth despite her afflictions.
During her stay in the UK in 2004, Witt took on the role of Evelyn in Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things at the New Ambassadors Theatre. Her performance garnered attention for its nuanced portrayal of the character's complexities.
Returning to the London stage in September 2006, Witt captivated audiences at the Royal Court Theatre in Piano/Forte, where she skillfully embodied the emotionally scarred pianist Abigail. Critics lauded her portrayal, highlighting her ability to convey the character's stammering nature convincingly.


Witt's theatrical prowess continued as she shared the stage with Amber Tamblyn in Neil LaBute's Reasons to Be Pretty at the Geffen Playhouse until August 31, 2014.
Beyond acting, Witt is renowned for her musical talents, being a proficient singer-songwriter and pianist. Praised for her piano skills during her portrayal of Abigail in Piano/Forte, Witt's musical prowess has been consistently noted.
In 2009, Witt ventured into music with her self-titled EP album, followed by Live at Rockwood in 2012 and Revisionary History in 2015. Collaborating with Ben Folds, she contributed to the soundtrack of the film Cold Turkey in 2013.


Joining the cast of ABC's Nashville in 2016, Witt showcased her musical abilities, portraying established country singer Autumn Chase and performing several songs throughout the season.
August 2018 marked the release of Witt's EP album, 15,000 Days, produced by Jacquire King. Currently, she is finalizing her new album, The Conduit, set for release in September 2021.
In 2020, Witt delighted fans with two new Christmas songs featured in her Hallmark Christmas film, Christmas Tree Lane.
Her musical journey continued with the release of the six-song EP, Witness, in August 2023.
