Wurk for work: Investing in your earning potential

People are constantly looking for extra cash. A platform like Wurk is 99% people looking for jobs to do (Wurkers) rather than posting jobs (Creators).

However if you’re a Wurker and you’re not also a Creator you’re missing out on a vital part of the platform you can be leveraging to improve your earning potential.

Many content rewards programs exist in crypto today. Here are just a few examples
https://superteam.fun/earn
https://scribble.network/
https://zeroauthoritydao.com/

Many of these platforms run bounties which require you to craft detailed submissions and then compete to win the bounty. These are not quick wins, they require effort and most of the time you’ll probably not be successful, but the pay-offs are quite large when you are.
If you’re investing your time then it makes sense to also invest some money into helping your submissions stand out. This is where Wurk comes in.

You can use Wurk jobs to help boost your submissions to these bounty programs. However you need to be smart about it.
We'll use X as an example as a lot of bounties have X as the main platform for submissions.

The ‘no effort’ option doesn’t work

You can run with a very basic campaign without much effort. The quick start options

However you’re likely going to get very low quality results and will actually hurt your content more than it will help.

The more ‘spammy’ accounts interact with your content the more X will downgrade your reach. So will have now spent money to end up worse off than if you’d not spent anything at all.

But there is another approach. It takes more time, and more patience, but you can get a lot more value out of your spend.

Many jobs; each job builds on the previous ones

You want to start at least a week out (preferably a couple) before the submission deadline for the bounty you’re working on.

I recently entered this ZeroAuthorityDAO bounty: https://zeroauthoritydao.com/bounty/8699cc4e-35cf-4afe-aefd-c3fbcc82e167

I needed my submission https://x.com/defi1crypto2/status/2106261766976180629?s=20 to get a base level of engagement to be competitive.

NOTE: I couldn’t pay-to-win this bounty, nor did I want to. First and foremost the content needs to be good on its own. Secondly I could never afford to buy the same engagement much more established creators on the X have. But I also knew that little or zero engagement would give me no chance.

So what I’ve done is take a layered approach to how I am using jobs. Each job will help build the next job.

I used Custom Jobs for all thesehttps://wurk.fun/create

Here’s the job I posted.

Bitcoin is no longer just a passive digital rock. The era of programmable BTC is here. With sBTC and self-custodial Bitcoin Staking on Stacks, you can now earn native yield without giving up your keys.

THE TASK

WHAT TO SUBMIT

  • link to your comment
  • screenshot of your comment and the post showing your repost and like (see screenshot example)

NOTE: any comments which are flagged as 'Probable Spam' from X may not be eligible. Please check your comment status before submitting to be sure.

Adding examples is a double edged sword

Adding screenshots and images to help explain a job can be really helpful for Wurkers to complete the job well. However, examples can also sometimes lead to worse quality.
In the above example nearly all entries just used the same X post in my example comment for theirs. In the second post I deleted my comment on the article and added this to the job “NOTE: Don’t use the Muneeb post from the screenshot.”

Iterate like this on your job as you go along to fine tune your results.

Use Classifications to help you work the Submissions queue

As you work through the submissions I find it helpful to sort for Unclassified and as I review a job I mark it as Not Interested/Maybe/Interested and it’ll disappear from the list of jobs on screen.

1st job

https://wurk.fun/custom/baa2757a

  • 24hrs time limit
  • Available for Wurkers with X metrics > 250
  • Always use the ‘I select winners’ for the How winners are selected

In this first job I’m looking to weed out those Wurkers X is flagging as Probable Spam.

Image edited to remove the details of the accounts X flagged.

You don’t want to be paying for potential downgrades to your account. You have two options here

  • Block the accounts on X so they can’t interact with any more of your posts
  • Block accounts on Wurk so they can’t enter any more of your jobs

You can do both of course but each has its pros and cons.

  • a block on Wurk will stop them entering more jobs, and you can easily reverse via https://wurk.fun/profile/myjobs/blacklist should you need.
  • On the other hand, maybe a Wurker has a low value X account, but is actually really valuable for non-X related jobs. In that case you’ll miss out on them applying for non-X tasks, so blocking on X would be the better option.

Remember this is your money you are spending. You want to be very strict on how you fine tune the quality of submissions that come in. Wurk is powerful but it’s easy to get frustrated at low quality submissions and simply give up on the platform.

You can also report any submissions that are clearly spam or fraudulent. If a submission meets all the guidelines you’ve set, then you can’t report it just because you think it might be low quality.
Also don’t report stuff which is clearly a mistake. In other words: When in doubt, don’t be a d***

2nd Job

https://wurk.fun/custom/0e162542
We’ve run the same job again, but this time we’ve used a different filter metric

  • Verified X account
  • 24 hours

You’ll normally be able to fairly quickly close out your first job as the limit for entries will fill up. When you’ve selected all the valid entries just send a Refund Request to reward the winners and refund all remaining funds.

We will also exclude all users who entered the previous job as they can’t provide any more value for this X article.

3rd Job

https://wurk.fun/custom/ca142690

We run the job again, this time with new filter

  • 24 hours
  • FairScale score > 60

And we exclude users who entered the last two jobs

4th job

https://wurk.fun/custom/244825d9

  • 24 hours
  • Web3 Social Insurance Plan 🧅community members

For my last job I’ve selected a Wurk Community as the entrants. However we are still excluding all those who entered in the last 3 jobs as we need net new engagement on the post.

Communities are a good way to select for a group of users that have been filtered on multiple metrics already and you can further filter by selecting for leaderboard score within each community.

Final results

We ended up with a good result. The initial traction we were able to get through Wurk helped push the article to pick up more organic engagement.

It’s never going to match the engagement of bigger social accounts that are entering, and we still had a little more engagement flagged as spam than wasn’t. However over the course of the jobs we were able to tune our exposure to low value accounts, and this will increasingly pay off as we’ve run more jobs.

Will we win? It’s down to the relative strength of the entry itself, not social media metrics, but we’ve given ourselves a good chance and we’ve done so at a fairly low cost (only a few bucks worth).
And it’s likely even cheaper than that….see below

Hold $WURK to offset your costs

If you hold enough WURK in a wallet connected to your account and you meet the activity requirements you’ll be eligible for reward distributions. Most of my activity has come from creating jobs https://arena.social/defi1crypto2/status/2d819a71-6041-4b1f-89cf-8c50c5d82791, and the vault rewards have helped discount my total spend on Wurk.

If you’re spending enough creating jobs to meet the activity requirements, it’s a simple way to earn some of that spend back and lower your overall costs.
