In Japan, a country prone to natural disasters, there exists a Building Standards Act designed to ensure homes are constructed to withstand such events.

Japan is susceptible to natural disasters such as fires, flooding, tsunamis, debris flows, volcanic activity, and earthquakes. Consequently, homes built to modern standards adhere to building regulations stricter than those in many other countries, ensuring greater resilience against disasters. While preserving Japan's heritage, even older homes must strictly adhere to building codes. Indeed, from a disaster resilience perspective, demolishing older houses and constructing new ones on the remaining land seems highly advantageous.

Human activities vary according to each nation's circumstances. It is important to recognise that Japan experiences such variations frequently before visiting the country.
