Banana or Plantain? The Great Family Debate Over This "Adamma" Species! 🍌🤔
ThThisis looks like a banana to me, but we were recently told it's not, that it’s actually a plantain called Adamma.
As farmers, one would think we should know every single species of plantain out there, but honestly, we had never heard of this particular one before! My husband and I recently started farming on a new piece of land, and we’ve been lucky enough to find lots of plantains and bananas already growing there.
When we first sighted this specific bunch, our mouths started watering. We were already imagining how well it would go down with fried rice or a handful of
roasted groundnuts!
We waited patiently for it to mature. Then, Mama visited us one hot afternoon, looked at the bunch, and said, "This plantain will soon be ready." My husband quickly corrected her, "No ma, that's banana." Mama shook her head and insisted, "It's plantain, not banana. It is called Adamma!"
Haa! My husband and I just looked at each other in surprise because that name was entirely new to us. Either way, we decided we were going to enjoy it regardless, whether it turns out to be "Adamma" plantain or just regular banana! 😂
Today, we finally harvested it, and a few fingers look like they will ripen very soon. We also harvested a regular bunch of plantain alongside it, and I told my husband that they even smell quite different. The good thing is that banana and plantain have distinct tastes and aromas, so the truth will reveal itself once we take that first bite!
We can't wait to find out if it's Mama who is right, or us.
Have any of you heard of the "Adamma" plantain before? Is this exactly what it looks like? Let me know in the comments!
I will definitely update you all as soon as we cut it open to discover the truth.
Thank you for reading!
