Manchester United narrowly escaped a colossal upset in their FA Cup semi-final against Coventry at Wembley. Despite squandering a 3-0 lead and almost conceding a late goal in extra time, VAR controversially ruled out the opposition's effort, allowing United to advance to the final. However, their performance left much to be desired, and Coventry arguably deserved better.

The match culminated in a tense penalty shootout, which United ultimately won 4-2, securing their spot in the final. Rasmus Hojlund's decisive penalty prompted a celebratory rush, though his teammates seemed more relieved than jubilant. Notably, Antony, the Brazilian winger, displayed a lack of sensitivity by attempting to goad Coventry's devastated players with his celebratory gestures, highlighting his disconnect from the situation.

Antony's behavior epitomizes the issues plaguing Manchester United. Criticized as an overrated and overpaid player, he fails to contribute meaningfully to the team's success. Many believe he should be among the first players to depart during the upcoming transfer window, as part of a broader restructuring plan proposed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Most shameless flop ever to grace our league

Former Crystal Palace player Clinton Morrison criticized Antony's behavior, suggesting that he should focus on his own performances rather than taunting opponents. Morrison implied that Antony's inconsistent performances could see him relegated to Championship football next season.

Gabby Agbonlahor, Aston Villa's top scorer of all time, was even harsher in his assessment of Antony, labeling him as potentially the most shameless flop in Premier League history. Agbonlahor went as far as to call Antony a "prat" who wouldn't even make Coventry's starting lineup.

It's unlikely that any Premier League clubs will be interested in signing Antony this summer, considering his poor form and attitude. Manchester United, who invested significantly in Antony, may have to sell him at a loss, despite him being under contract until 2027.
Antony's introduction into the match against Coventry coincided with Manchester United's collapse from a comfortable three-goal lead, highlighting his lack of impact on the team's performance. While United as a whole have struggled, Antony's presence on the field seems to exacerbate their problems.

Incredible lack of self-awareness

Antony initially made a strong impression at Manchester United, scoring in his first three Premier League appearances, a feat unmatched by any other new signing for the club. However, his promising start failed to silence critics who questioned the hefty price tag United paid for him. Despite his early success, Antony's form quickly declined, finishing the season with only four league goals and frustrating fans with his predictable style of play and lack of productivity.

While it's common for foreign players to take time to adapt to a new league, Antony's struggles continued into the following season. In 34 appearances across all competitions, he managed just four goal contributions and failed to find the net in the Premier League. Additionally, he faced allegations of domestic violence in September, resulting in a leave of absence from the team. Since returning, Antony has struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup, starting only two of United's last 14 games.

Despite his poor performances and off-field controversies, Antony displayed a lack of self-awareness in a recent interview, expressing confidence in his abilities and claiming to have overcome difficulties through hard work. His actions at Wembley further exemplified this disconnect from reality, highlighting the damage he has inflicted on his own career and his status as one of United's most disappointing signings.

No signs of improvement

Antony's standout moment in a Manchester United shirt occurred during their FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool, where he scored a remarkable 87th-minute equalizer to force extra time. Despite being surrounded by Liverpool defenders, Antony managed to swivel and slot the ball into the far corner with his weaker foot, surprising everyone in the stadium.

Although this goal showcased Antony's ability to improvise and score with his weaker foot, it was an exception rather than the norm. Despite claiming to have worked on his weaker foot, Antony has failed to consistently deliver on the pitch. He often resorts to cutting inside onto his favored left foot, hindering United's attacking play and failing to exploit opportunities to use his right foot effectively.

While Antony did provide an impressive assist with an outside-of-the-foot pass to Garnacho in a Premier League match against Chelsea, his overall performance has been lacking. He tends to opt for high-risk, spectacular plays that often don't pay off, highlighting his inconsistency and technical deficiencies.

Antony's performance and attitude raise doubts about his suitability for a top-level club. His lack of pace, technical ability, and effectiveness in the final third, combined with his perceived unlikeable personality, paint a picture of a problematic player. This is a familiar issue for United fans who have witnessed similar struggles with other signings in recent years.
