Shyness, an emotion that can be caused by past traumas, parental attitudes or various psychological conditions, can prevent people from socializing from time to time. Every person has a different degree of shyness.

You may have experienced a short-lived shyness in a social setting because of a behavior or a mistake. However, you may need to be careful if your confidence is broken with endless shyness and if you magnify your flaws in your mind. Here are 4 things you can do to overcome shyness...

People who want to get rid of shyness actually have many things in common. The biggest of these is the fear of being judged by the other person. The situation can become such that during a conversation, instead of focusing on the conversation, the person wonders what the other person thinks about them and worries about it.

Entering a new environment or meeting new people creates some level of tension in almost all of us because of the uncertainty involved. The intensity of this tension varies according to many factors such as how often we are in environments where we meet new people, what kind of family we grew up in (our parents' communication skills), our need for approval, our concerns about being criticized, our personality structure and our self-confidence.

We may be shy in the presence of new people, retreating into a corner or becoming quiet in a group. Either way, it is uncomfortable not being able to be ourselves as we are; it leaves our needs for spontaneity and sharing unfulfilled, and in the long run it limits us and reduces our life satisfaction.

But there are ways to overcome it. So how can you deal with shyness?

1- BOOST YOUR SELF-CONFIDENCE
Shyness is directly linked to self-confidence. You can gain self-confidence by focusing on your past achievements or spending more time on activities you enjoy. Approaching yourself positively, focusing on your specific characteristics and giving yourself the value you deserve will increase your self-confidence.

2- BE OPEN TO NEW FRIENDSHIPS
If over time your shyness has led you to avoid socializing, you can overcome it by working on socializing. If you want to overcome chronic shyness, you can meet new people and make new friends.

3- IMPROVE YOUR SPEECH AND BODY LANGUAGE
Factors such as appearance, body language and speech can cause shyness. If you are too quiet in social situations, try to force yourself to avoid this. Making eye contact with the other person and adjusting your tone of voice can alleviate your shyness. On the other hand, instead of remaining expressionless while socializing, confirming the other person with gestures and facial expressions can help you overcome the shyness you feel.

4- DO NOT MAKE FALSE SELF-EVALUATION
Shyness is an emotion that causes people to criticize themselves mercilessly. So stop focusing only on your bad qualities when criticizing yourself. Because this may cause your shyness to increase. While doing self-evaluation, you should make peace with your mistakes, learn from them and approach yourself with positive statements.
