According to Newsweek magazine on May 4 (Vietnam time), US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink has just spoken to the Ukrainian press about US military aid to Kyiv. There, Brink stressed Washington's position that it would not allow Kyiv to take weapons it supplies to attack Russian territory, regardless of its power.

Brink said: "The first point in helping Ukraine defend itself is to provide them with our weapons and those of our partners. This helps your brave heroes fight on the battlefield and regain territory.

However, our position from the beginning remains that we neither allow nor encourage the use of our weapons to attack Russia and places outside Ukraine."

Brink also praised President Joe Biden's administration for secretly delivering to Ukraine the long-range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), capable of hitting targets on Russian territory, for weeks

The U.S. ambassador to Ukraine said it was a "new message that shows our unwavering commitment to Ukraine's defense." Brink's comments came after British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said "Ukraine has the right to use British weapons to attack British territory" on May 2.

For months, U.S. officials have expressed concern about Ukraine striking targets inside Russia, particularly Russian oil refineries. Washington worries that these attacks will escalate war tensions between the two countries.
Therefore, Washington's military assistance to Kiev is still made on the basis of Ukraine's commitment not to use US weapons to attack Russian soil.
