Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. He was raised by his mother and grandparents and spent time in Hawaii, Indonesia, and later in mainland United States.
After graduating from Columbia University in 1983 with a degree in Political Science, Obama worked as a community organizer in Chicago. He then attended law school at Harvard University, where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review.
After graduating from law school, Obama worked as a lawyer and a professor before entering politics. He was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996 and to the U.S. Senate in 2004.
In 2008, Obama ran for president and won the Democratic nomination. In November of that year, he was elected as the 44th President of the United States, becoming the first African American to hold the office.
During his presidency, Obama implemented several significant reforms, including the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare), the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. He also ordered a successful military operation that resulted in the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
Obama was reelected in 2012 and left office in January 2017 with a 57% approval rating, one of the highest of any outgoing president in recent history.
Since leaving office, Obama has continued to be involved in public life, writing books, giving speeches, and working on various initiatives. He remains a highly influential figure in American politics and is widely respected both in the U.S. and around the world.
