There are a total of 53 civil airports in Turkey. 3 of them are in Istanbul. Yrausquin Airport is an airport located on the Dutch Caribbean island of Saba. It is considered the smallest commercial airport in the world with a runway length of 400 meters. The first airport with scheduled flights was Hounslow Heath Aerodrome Airport, located near London, in August 1919. An airplane landed at this airport for the first time in 1909. Frankfurt Airport is the largest cargo airport among all European airports and the 13th largest cargo airport in the world, with a cargo volume of over 2 million tons.

The terminal building has the distinction of being the world's largest terminal under one roof. It is a 4-storey terminal with an area of 1 million 400 thousand square meters, 45 meters high. Istanbul Airport was built on the European side of Istanbul, on an area of 76.5 km 2 between Tayakadin and Akpınar villages on the Black Sea coast, with a terminal that can be increased to an annual capacity of 200 million passengers and six independent runways.

As of April 2022, the partnership structure of İGA, which is taking strong and confident steps towards its future goals thanks to its solid partnership structure, is as follows: 55% Kalyon Holding, 45% Cengiz Holding.

It has three control towers, one of which is virtual, and six runways. It is planned to organize 3,500 flights from here to 350 destinations around the world. At Istanbul Airport, which has many technological features, the comfort of passengers has been considered even in the smallest detail. This airport has a capacity of 18,000 vehicles, shopping opportunities, luxury consumer stores and the world's largest duty free area of 53,000 square meters.
