Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel launched an impassioned tirade the way of Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his part in Brentford’s last-gasp equaliser on Saturday, while various sources are suggesting a summer exit is likely.
The Red Devils were dominated against Brentford on Saturday, though through Mason Mount’s first goal for the club, looked on course to dramatically snatch all three points deep into injury time.

However, Kristoffer Ajer pulled the Bees level with virtually the last kick of the game when rifling home Ivan Toney’s superb cut-back.
Toney did well to craft half a yard of space and showed quick feet to dance away from a pair of Man Utd defenders. However, replays showed Toney would have been offside had Aaron Wan-Bissaka not been caught ambling out from the back.
When running the rule over Brentford’s equaliser and the part Wan-Bissaka played in making it happen, United legend, Peter Schmeichel, did not pull his punches.

“If you look at Wan-Bissaka on the Brentford goal, and this is what I mean by standards,” began Schmeichel (as quoted by the Mirror).
“Wan-Bissaka is out there to the left, the ball gets crossed and now look at him. He’s walking off, walking, walking, he’s jogging.

“And Ivan Toney would have been offside had he followed the back-four line up and then that goal wouldn’t have happened. Look at him [Wan-Bissaka] coming out! Look at it!
“That’s not Manchester United, that’s not pride, that’s not high standards. That’s not focussing on what your job is.
“He has cost – not to blame him for this – but in that moment, because of what he did, or didn’t do, a simple thing like concentrating, they equalised.”
Journalist Rudi Galetti claimed in early-March that the chances Man Utd axe Wan-Bissaka in the summer are ‘growing’.
That was followed up by reports in Italy claiming the right-back will be moved on and could be replaced by Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

Rashford savaged for Brentford display

Forward Marcus Rashford also came in for stinging criticism from Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.
“I think Man Utd fans will have probably been really looking forward to tonight after a brilliant result against Liverpool. You thought they might have turned their season around,” said Redknapp.

“They have been so bad tonight. I cannot believe the lack of effort, the lack of spark, desire to win individual battles, to make things happen in that team.
“We’re watching Marcus Rashford and he’s walking around like it’s a bit of fun out there. It’s the Premier League! You’ve got to try and win games.
“We’ve been amazed at how poor Manchester United have been.”
Man Utd have the chance to right their wrongs when facing another struggling English giant on Thursday.
United will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea who themselves were held to a draw against 10-man Burnley last time out.

Man City 0-0 Arsenal: Stalemate at Etihad leaves Liverpool top of Premier League

Manchester City and Arsenal played out a goalless draw at the Etihad on Sunday to ensure Liverpool end the weekend top of the Premier League.
After Jurgen Klopp’s men came back to beat Brighton earlier on Sunday, attention turned to the Etihad Stadium for the final league meeting between any of the three teams vying for glory.

But the high-profile clash fell well short of the pre-match hype as Pep Guardiola’s men were held by former City coach Mikel Arteta and his will-drilled Arsenal side in a cagey 0-0 draw.
Whether this proves an important point for either side or a missed opportunity remains to be seen, with Liverpool now at the summit on 67 points ahead of Arsenal on 65 and City on 64.
There is sure to be plenty of twists and turns over final nine matches, but Sunday’s Etihad Stadium encounter was devoid of any such excitement.
Gabriel Jesus had Arsenal’s best opportunities in a drab first half dominated by the home side for most part without creating opportunities.
Referee Anthony Taylor gave little in terms of cards and bookings during a game that limped towards a draw, ending the Gunners’ eight-game losing streak in all competitions at the Etihad.
Guardiola made two changes to his starting line-up as Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake came in for Jeremy Doku and the injured Kyle Walker, with Arsenal’s only alteration seeing Jesus replace Leandro Trossard.

The former City forward had the first meaningful chance of a tense afternoon, meeting Ben White’s cross from the right with a touch and strike narrowly wide. Arteta slapped his thighs in frustration.

But City were camped in the visitors’ half before and after that seventh-minute warning shot, albeit their patient probing and possession failed to translate into clear-cut chances.
Ake had the hosts’ only first-half attempt on target – a close-range shouldered effort straight at David Raya from a corner – and was forced off with an apparent calf injury in the 26th minute.
Rico Lewis replaced him shortly after Kai Havertz stretched to meet the ball in a challenge with Stefan Ortega and City’s subsequent defensive rejig was nearly punished by the Gunners five minutes later.

Good play down the right ended with a deep cross to Jakub Kiwior, who dropped the ball back for Jesus to jink into space and hit a low shot across the face of Ortega’s goal.
City responded with a few half-chances but were unable to seriously test an Arsenal side fortunate to go into half-time without a single booking to their name.
Mateo Kovacic bent a 20-yard effort wide within two minutes of the restart as Arsenal began to become as incensed with the lack of yellow cards and fouls as the hosts.
Arteta’s gesticulations in the technical area were mocked by City fans, who held their breath when Bukayo Saka got behind to slide a low ball across the face of goal that just evaded Jesus at the far post.
Manuel Akanji had smartly disrupted the forward’s move otherwise it could have been the opener.
Tempers were rising around the ground and there were ironic cheers in the 67th minute when Jesus received the first booking of the day after throwing the ball away.

But the former City man received applause from some of the home support when he was taken off among a swathe of changes made by both managers.
Arsenal star Saka was another replaced, walking off gingerly shortly after being caught out, but not punished, by De Bruyne.
Raya was booked for time-wasting as Taylor went to his pocket for just the second time, before both sides wasted chances to win it.
First Erling Haaland just failed to get his toe on a ball in the box, then substitute Trossard got behind to test Ortega when he needed a cleaner shot or a pass to Gabriel Martinelli.
Haaland received treatment late on and saw penalty hopes ignored, with the five minutes of stoppage time coming to nothing.

Klopp praises Liverpool for ‘best we have played against De Zerbi’ on Brighton boss’ audition

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his side put in their best performance against Brighton under Robert De Zerbi on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds went back on top of the Premier League after coming from behind to beat the Seagulls at Anfield.

Klopp: Brighton have incredible quality

It was remarkably the 26th point Klopp’s side have picked up from a losing position this term and is the first time he came out victorious against De Zerbi – who is one of the favorites to replace the German this summer.
Understandably, Klopp says Sunday’s performance was the best he has seen against Brighton under the Italian.

“I would have loved to not be 1-0 down, I would love to have been four or five nil up but that’s the best we played against De Zerbi’s Brighton,” he told Match of the Day.
“Playing wise it was really good, defending wise, yes always a struggle but there’s been games against Brighton we were never close but this time we were calm. That is the first of the last 10, let’s keep going.”

On the move for the winner, Klopp added: “That is an unbelievable ball [from Dominik Szoboszlai]. It is the creativity and the quality, seeing that. He sees Macca [Alexis Mac Allister], his first touch is incredible and then he sees Mo [Salah].
“How wasteful we were at all the other moments it was good we had this genius football moment to finish the game off.

“Brighton have incredible quality. That is the measure I have for how good we were today because I really respect them. They had chances, they took more risks all of a sudden and we got slightly tired.
“We deserved to win the game. That is what you want and then on top of that it is really cool.”
Meanwhile, man of the match and ex-Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister told Sky Sports: “We didn’t start as we wanted but it was an amazing game. We played against an unbelievable team.
“I know them very well, I know what they can do and it was a tough match but in the end we won it and we are very happy.
“I would rather not concede so early but the mentality of the boys is amazing and that is what you need when you are 1-0 down, and today we showed it again. But next time we have to start the game winning, not losing.”

Mauricio Pochettino on the brink as ‘several Chelsea players’ ask board to sack manager

Several Chelsea players have reportedly told the club’s board that they want to see Mauricio Pochettino sacked, following their dismal 2-2 draw against Burnley.
The Blues were unable to pick up three points against the Lancashire side on Saturday, who had to play the majority of the game with 10 men after Lorenz Assignon was sent off in the 40th minute.

The result leaves Chelsea in 11th place in the Premier League table. Cole Palmer, who scored Chelsea’s two goals, described his team’s efforts as ‘poor’ following the game.
“It’s poor, really… it can’t happen. Especially when they go down to ten men,” Palmer said. “We got too comfortable. Same story, we kill ourselves every week. It’s got to improve from us as players. We need consistency.”
Pressure had been mounting on Pochettino before the game but the result has only compounded the manager’s misery.
Now, according to HITC, ‘some members of Chelsea’s squad’ want to see the manager axed this summer.

Chelsea players ask board to sack Mauricio Pochettino

The report states that several Chelsea players have ‘made it clear to the club’s owners that they would prefer to see Pochettino replaced at the end of the season.’
Todd Boehly and other decision makers at Stamford Bridge now have a big call to make over whether to stick with the Argentine or bring in yet another new manager.

to start things off today,

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea have already begun drawing up a shortlist of potential new bosses.
Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi is one candidate they admire greatly, but it could prove very difficult to lure him away from the San Siro given he is in talks over a contract extension and they are progressing well.
Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim is also being eyed by Chelsea along with several other Premier League clubs, per reports, while Antonio Conte has been linked with a shock return to the London club.
The summer looks set to be an incredibly turbulent period for the club with the threat of a transfer embargo looming as Chelsea scramble to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
TEAMtalk sources state that the Blues could be forced to sell several homegrown players to balance the books, with club captain Reece James being the latest to be linked with an exit.

Man Utd, West Ham and five others on red alert as sale of £100m striker becomes inevitable

Brentford are reportedly ‘ready to sell’ Ivan Toney in the summer amid interest from Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle.
The England striker missed a big chunk of the season through suspension but has been in fine form since his return, netting four goals in 11 Premier League games so far.

Toney put in another impressive performance in Brentford’s 1-1 draw with Man Utd but was unable to find the net.
He undoubtedly has what it takes to play at the very highest level and by his own admission, is keen to leave Brentford for a top club this summer.
Recent reports suggest that West Ham are the favourites to secure Toney’s signature but the race is far from over, with Man Utd and Tottenham believed to be close on their heals.
That certainly doesn’t rule out Arsenal or perhaps even Newcastle coming in with their own offer for Toney at the end of the season. however.

Brentford ‘ready’ to sell Ivan Toney

According to transfer journalist Ekrem KonurBrentford will almost definitely sell Toney this summer to ensure they receive a big fee for this services.
“Brentford are ready to cash in on Toney this summer as he enters the final year of his contract,” Konur wrote on X.
“West Ham, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Arsenal continue to be linked with the 27-year-old English striker.”

So First off, Sir Jim Radcliffe,

Various outlets have suggested that Brentford will demand £100m for Toney this summer – but whether they receive an offer of that size remains to be seen.
It’s very unlikely that West Ham would be willing to pay that much for the striker. Although, funds generated from the likely sale of Lucas Paqueta to Manchester City could help in that regard.
Tottenham and Arsenal, on the other hand, have both made signing a prolific goal scorer one of their priorities for the summer but have several options on their respective shortlists.
Man Utd are keen to bring in someone to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund, while Newcastle are eyeing a long-term replacement for exit-linked star Callum Wilson.
We could, therefore, see a bidding war take place for Toney this summer – which is exactly what Brentford want so they get as much money as possible for their talisman.
It will be interesting to see which of his many suitors make the first concrete move in the transfer battle.
