In 1402, Zhu Di became emperor and decided to move the capital from Nanjing to Beijing. Here, Minh Thanh To directly directed the construction of the Forbidden City. Millions of workers worked for 14 years to complete this complex and expensive project.
In 1421, the emperor moved into the palace complex and Beijing became the new capital. From here, the Forbidden City was ruled by 24 kings in turn (from the middle of the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty). In 1912, China's last emperor abdicated.
For more than 500 years, the Forbidden City was a mystery to civilians because not everyone was allowed in or out. Today, the Palace attracts about 20,000 visitors every day.

The unique architecture of the palace complex also lies in the elaborate dragon and phoenix carvings on giant marble slabs. The largest slab is 16.8 m long and 3 m wide located in front of the Thai Hoa palace area
The colors are arranged very specially in the Forbidden City. Yellow symbolizes ultimate power, reserved for monarchs. In fact, everything the king touched or wore was yellow: from his clothes, bedding, floor tiles to his daily eating bowls and chopsticks. Even the roof tiles in the Forbidden City are lapis lazuli tiles coated with a layer of yellow enamel to clearly show the emperor's majesty.

Therefore, the layout of the Forbidden City is mostly designed symmetrically. The most important palaces are located on the North - South axis in the center and the other palaces are arranged symmetrically on both sides.

The Forbidden City also has 9,999 rooms, one less than the 10,000 rooms in Thien Cung - the place where the Jade Emperor the Great ruled in legend. On the roof of the Royal Palace are decorated 9 images of dragon-like beasts. In particular, on the Great Gate, there are often 81 nail knobs, 9 vertical and 9 horizontal.
