Emma stepped inside, her fingers brushing the nearest spine. The book shifted beneath her touch as if alive. She pulled it free and opened it. The pages were filled not with words, but with drawings—portraits of her.
Her chest tightened. Each page showed her in different moments—sleeping, walking, writing, laughing—moments no one should have seen. The final drawing made her heart stop. It was her, standing at this very door, holding the bronze key.
Her hands trembled as she dropped the book, its pages scattering open on the stone floor.
The stranger’s voice reached her, steady and calm. “Every secret has its place here. The mansion doesn’t just know you—it remembers you.”
