The golden-framed mirror stood still, its polished surface holding an unsettling silence. Emma forced herself to breathe evenly, her heartbeat still echoing from the vision she had just witnessed.

She stepped closer, her eyes narrowing as though she could force the glass to bend to her will. But this time, the reflection didn’t shift. It showed only her pale face, her clenched fists, the tremble in her shoulders.

Until she blinked.
A whisper slid into the room, faint but distinct, not from the stranger, not from herself— but from the mirror.
“Take the key.”

Emma froze. The words were soft, like breath against her ear, but they echoed inside her chest with terrifying clarity. Her gaze dropped to the velvet-covered table. She hadn’t noticed it before, but now a second key rested on the cloth. Bronze, small, and oddly shaped, it seemed to pulse faintly as though alive.

Behind her, the stranger shifted. “You heard it too, didn’t you?” His voice was calm, almost expectant.

Emma’s throat went dry. “What is this place?”
He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he stepped closer, his reflection in the mirror far more vivid than in reality. In the glass, his face was sharp, familiar, his eyes burning with something she couldn’t name.

“The mansion shows only what you’re ready to face,” he murmured. “The mirror doesn’t lie. It gives you what you’ve hidden from yourself.”
Emma’s fingers hovered above the bronze key. It radiated warmth, a dangerous allure. She wanted to grab it, to unlock whatever door it belonged to, but fear anchored her to the spot.

“What happens if I take it?” she whispered.
The stranger’s lips curved faintly, though whether in warning or invitation, she couldn’t tell. “Then the next truth begins.”
Emma’s hand trembled, torn between dread and desire. Slowly, she reached out, her fingertips brushing the metal. A spark shot up her arm, igniting something deep inside her.

The reflection smiled. Her reflection—braver, freer, unshackled—watched her with approval.
Emma closed her eyes. When she opened them again, the bronze key was in her hand.
The mansion grew colder. Another door had just unlocked.
